They really aren't that necessary depending upon power goals. GE sleeves are just fine and are a good company. the other thread you're seeing is from an individual who either a) doesn't have GE sleeves, and thinks he does, or b) did get a sunk sleeve (1 in a million shot) and hasn't called GE to see if it is indeed a problem.

You will be fine without it. I was told by a shop once that main caps get all messed up once you start running over 400whp, but I think they are just full of **** and they just messed up putting the engine together. I guess you can call it extra protection, but I'm too cheap to spend it on that.

Mainstuds and/or a Girdle will also require you to align hone the block as well.
I had a really strange issue with my old block, ERL 5-Point Girdle and 1/2" studs up top, combine that with a really big surprise on the machining side of things, I ended up with a big headache.
We're going to test our luck with the stock GSR girdle, I know plenty not running an aftermarket girdle and all have great success.

Its not needed to Bore and Hone if yuo use a GSR Block Girdle it is a direct bolt in and OEM thats the best part at least is what i was told. the other thing is you will need a GSR pan and GSR pick up and along with a windage plate.

You would still need to do a line bore since you would be using caps that didn't come with that block. Stock bolts are fine and you dont need a girdle for that power level.

I wouldnt even bother putting one in, no matter what the power level..
They will probably do more harm then good, Id rather the extra space for cooling...
