Hello HT
I have a big problem. Bought an engine with 2 different Pauter rods.
2 wheight 560gr and the other 566gr! So 6 gramms more
I have some pics
Why is that so? Did pauter changed the design? which is the newest rod? which the older model? i Think i cant rev the engine to 10K rpm with 6gr different on the crank :/
Those also look like X beams, which are STUPIDLY expensive, and considering OP said that s/he "bought an engine with two different rods", I'd definitely go back to the person I bought the engine from.
Balancing a rotating assembly is always a good idea with any high performance engine. Take the rods and pistons to a machine shop and have them balanced. This will make all of the rods look uniquely different, so it will be irrelevant which pair is new or old. One should never assume that a set of pistons or rods weigh the same and are a "balanced set" because it is quite common that they are not.
Obviously, attempting to sort this out with replacements from the vendor would be the first step, but it doesn't change the idea of verifying the weight balance of the parts. I didn't notice the difference of the pin end width in your photos, (although I did notice the cast flat and small bored hole in the Pin end) but this would be a great place to remove the additional weight since those two rods appear to be the heavier ones. Any competent machine shop can narrow the pin end of the rods to that of the other two.
I am just saying you have options if the vendor doesn't come through... you can get past this issue. No worries.
Skip the email and call them... companies like pauter receive countless emails each day and it could take weeks to get a reply... you'd get better help over the phone and you can email photos directly to the tech you're talking with for almost immediate help.
Sounds like you already found your answer. My Pauter rods are from June 2004. Not surprised they changed the design since then. Interesting note: Ive had one rod replaced in 2011. As long as you have the tag that comes with the rods they can make a single rod to the same specs and design. Looks identical to my original rods.
update
ive sent pauter my 2 rods. after 2 weeks i pay for 2 rods more.
after 3 weeks ive got 4 brand new identically pauter rods. really really good seller / brand
