Beat it hard, and LOTS of oil changes.

Just boost it but make sure you are tuned. I boosted 9psi when I had 67miles on my motor. The rings only take around 20miles to seat. Just make sure its tuned and boost away. If a problem is going to happen it will happen no matter when you boost it.

I prefer a spring loaded center punch. Somtimes I use a screwdriver or a slim jim though.

when we built buicks, having an overhead valve design, we did 10 mins at 200.
30 mins cool down. 10 mins at 2500. 30 mins cool down. then 10 mins at 3000. then 500 miles change the oil than have fun. no synthetic till 10,000 miles. i am sitting at 670 on mine and just waiting on the hondata.

how long do you think kenny tran or gary gardella break in their motors? if the rings are gonna seat theyll seet quick way quicker than 500 miles probably quicker than 50 miles. who realy knows. break in times is like the age old question boxers or briefs. its all an opinion. for every poor sob that broke his motor in for 600 miles plus and blew it up as soon as he pushed it hard there is one who didnt break his in and did the same thing so just do what makes you comfortable. my standard rule of thumb is drive soft until its tuned then beat the **** out of it thats what we build em for anyway

some types of rings seat faster than others, and it depends too on what type of wall you are using (steel, iron), piston to wall clearance and a few other scant details. I prefer a gradual break in, minimum 100 miles but no more than 500 is really needed. When I say gradual, I mean during the break in period, increasing rpm and intervals of abuse, as well as load. While the main portion of seating happens just during idle or high speed idle, more high RPM is needed for full seating. Taking a longer break in period can help you avoid failures while on the dyno by finding problems under lighter loads and fixing them before they become disasterous.
