Default Basic questions

I want to boost my 98 Civic EX on stock internals. I'd like to run about 7 or 8 psi daily for a while, then build up my motor over time to take the higher boost.

What would be the best kit for me to get in this case? I want something reliable and proven, with lots of gain, but I don't need a monster turbo.

I'm planning on buying used and would like to keep it around or under 2500 installed. I don't know a lot about pricing, but let me know if I'm dumb for thinking I can get it done for 2500...

Thanks in advance

Well im not going to tell you that you are dumb , but i think for that price you should probably try to peice a kit together and install it your self. Or hit up Ben from importparts.com about a nice DRAG III kit for your car, there nice and i havent heard allot of compleants at all short of upgrading the turbo oil lines. HTH

well I figured that 2500 would be reasonable if I shopped around well. SpeedRacerEX-R told me a while back that I could find a complete Greddy kit for like 1900 pretty easily. I figured a little more for install and that's about 2500...

I guess I'll just have to be thrifty

You can piece together a turbo kit for 2500 installed, but get a prefab kit since you don't really need that much power and still need to learn. A greddy kit has a smaller turbo, spools fast and the kit is pretty much bolt on... you can find a used greddy kit for about 1200-1900 for the sohc.

Good Luck !

if you want a nice set up on your car, the greddy kit is nice. That's what i'm running right now. If you want 8 psi daily, there are two things i recommend getting. One a Apexi VAFC so somebody can tune that thing so you don't detonate and two, get a better flowing fuel pump. The stock fuel pump can seize and stop putting out and then good bye motor. I'm putting in my fuel pump next week and then i'll be pushing 8psi.

I'm running 8lbs daily on stock injectors, 12:1 FMU, inline pump, AFC, and a stock block. It's been 2 years with no problems, and most of that time was without the inline pump which means I was running horribly lean. I wouldn't suggest that, of course.

so this is what I need?

used Greddy kit (1500)
used VAFC (200)
upgrade the full pump (100-150?)
turbo timer (100)

Anything else I will need just to get started at like 6psi daily?

Also, how much of this can I install by myself?

Do the kits on Greddy's website include everything I'll need or will I have to buy more **** (not including fuel pump, turbo timer, etc)? If so, they retail for $1995 and there is a group buy on groupbuycenter.com for 25% off MSRP and FREE shipping...

The GReddy SOHC kit is pretty bare bones. It doesn't include any of the extra stuff you need.

Yup, you are going to have to at least get a blow off valve and an intercooler plus a fuel solution if ure planning on raising boost pressures.

so you guys think I should try and find a Greddy kit that has already been on someone's car? That way it'll probably have everything I need...right?
