Default Basic Question about turbos

What makes a turbo fit just one type of car? why can't someone use any type of turbo on any type of car?

someone please help! thanks

(i am aware that this is a n00b question, i am prepared to be flamed.) but i feel like i need to know

first the exhaust manifold has to fit your car. then the adapter from the turbo to the exhaust manifold has to be the correct pattern so it bolts up. even after those two conditions are met, the turbo itself has to be able to physically fit in the car sizewise. if its too big toward the front of the car you may have to remove the A/C and fan unit. if its too big and makes contact with the block itself, you may either be able to shave a lil off the block, or it mite not fit at all. also a turbo has to be matched to your engine otherwise you might not make the right power in the right places (eg: spools up very fast but high end power dies off to quickly or you may have good high end but you spool up so slow that it takes you forever to get into boost). hope my general explanations help. if you look around for some pics you mite be able to understand a lil better. good luck

with a little ingenuity, you can make allmost anything fit, the only part that you cant really trade from car to car would be the turbo manifold, but evan some guys use other stock honda exhaust manifolds and modifythem to accept a turbo. So it can be done
