Default Backfiring when i let off the gas but not all the time

recently got a new motor(99 d16y7 5 speed)and a auto to man conversion done onto my 97 civic but i am using a y8 intake manifold and the y7 throttle body.
im using the automatic harness(with all 4 plugs plugged into the automatic ecu) and ecu that came with my 97 civic since the 99's harness and ecu wouldnt work with my car. i dont have a manual ecu yet(ecu's on its way here). i have a greddy 92-95 turbo kit on it also with an intercooler and am using the blue box as the fmu, greddy evo catback, and no cat converter.

my exhaust reeks like gas(probly since i have no cat) and while driving today i backfired a couple times. the timing is set at stock, im running ngk 6f plugs(gapped how they come out of the box) and am only boosting the greddy kit's max(6psi).Only one of my o2 sensors in in(92-95 greddy kit only had one bung for the o2 sensor, other is sitting on my transmission) What could be the cause of me backfiring? Anyone have a solution, im totally stumped and am scared i might mess this engine up

it doesn't do it all the time, just at various times

also another question, on the blue box, the green and white wire, which goes to the ecu and which goes to the wire going to the map sensor?

nope no cel for the 2nd o2 *edit* and the 2nd o2 is plugged into the harness, its just sitting on my transmission

i'd like to do the safc hack, or even hondata, but im seriously broke now, after engine swap and everything, and it doesnt look like either could be in the cards for a long time, i have some serious debt to take care of

if i took my car to a shop, would they be able to drill into my downpipe and put the 2nd o2 sensor? would that even do anything since the one o2 sensor is already on the downpipe?

you could get a fuel pressure regulator. and turn the pressure down a bit. but that's prolly not a good idea unless you can tune it on a dyno.

being a little rich is good on a turbo car. i would not worry about it. as long as your not puffing smoke.

platinum.

Do you live near the Atglen, Kennett Square area? There is a dyno there. Pretty damn cheap too. Can't remember the name off the top of my head
