boost 10-11psi on a B18b1 or 8psi on a B18c1 you will get similar hp numbers. B18b1 will make more torque though. I havent seen many people go over 10psi w/ the b18c1 but ive seen a few people get 15ish on the b18b1.
B18b1 can take more boost than the b18c1 numbers wise in stock form i would say would be very similar but you will have to boost more on the b18b1. i would go w/ a ls/vtec. 1500rpm extra and better flow but lower compression and better gear ratios.

Find me a b18b that makes around 330whp at 10-11lbs then.
Boostedhybrid's stock gsr motor makes that much at that kind of boost.
Also I've seen the b18c1 make 300 at less than 10lbs. Never seen an LS make that much. And they can both handle the same amount of boost, the b18c just demands more conservative tuning. That's all. But all said and done, the b18c1 is a sick motor for anything you want to do.
The only reason why you see more high boost stock b18bs is because more people run them, since they're so cheap (like less than 1000bucks for a longblock) and the b18c1 ($3200+) is pretty damn expensive.

The gsr makes more hp, but the Ls will generally make more torque at similar boost levels, but will lack in hp dept.
The gsr has better flowing head, better tranny, better internals, higher compression
The ls has lower compression, longer tranny
and shitty head, but for the the $ you cant beat it.
The way i look at it is if your on a budget the Ls will be perfect
If your not on a budget the gsr will be even better
Im very happy with my ls so far, and thats going from a b20 vtec turbo gsr tranny

thats what i would like to now. if i have a gsr now and running 8 psi, could i get a B18b block and put my head on it and boost more with the lower compression? ls vtec's make more hp than B18c1's right? and i would be running more boost too so that is two plus's. where's the reliability factor.
Your forgetting at least one very important thing. Every turbo will make different HP at the same psi level. I will post this thread again https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=654560 that is b18cx's car making 320 whp and 234 TRQ @ 8.5psi! SC61 and a lovefab mani! read that thread and learn!!

b18 what? b? c1?c5?
b18 what? b? c1?c5?
IMO,
b18c5>b18c1>b18b>b16
now as far as if you had to buy a motor as well, then definately drop the c5 out of the picture b/c its so expensive.
the c5 and the b16 have the best flowing heads, but both the c1 and the b18b will
have more torque than the b16, its a fact due to the extra displacement. it might not be much more, but every little bit counts.
as far as hp numbers, the b18b will have the least.
but due to costs and the extra torque, i would get the b18b over the b16.
but if you have money, go for b18c1.
