B16a VS B18b1
Well, I bought the B18a complete longblock guys. $350 delivered to my door. Perfect compression, passed air care for the last 8 years flawlessly, 180,000kms (aprox 110,000 miles).
Do I really need 550's? I was hoping I could use some 440's or so. What brand injectors are most of you guys running? DSM with a resistor box seem pretty common, but it seems pretty ghetto. I'm looking for 250whp, and I think it's not going to be too hard to achieve that on a decent sized turbo and 10psi, like you mentioned.

theres nothing "ghetto" about 450's. budget is more like it. and 550's are the same price as 440's so if your going to buy new you might as well go with the bigger ones that way you wont be running them on the edge and have room to expand later.
you can get precision 550's brand new for 200. they are DSM style so you will need to open up the injector o rings a bit like with the 450's and wire a resistor box. very simple. DSM 450's will support 250WHP just fine though so if your looking to spend the least bit possible then thats your best bet.

I'm not cheap, but don't want to spend more money than I have to to get some good power. But yeah, thanks for your input. I think I'd go with the dsm injectors with a resistor box.
ls/t hands down! then when the money is build a ls/vtec. you will love that low end power and low end spool and when vtec hits thats all she wrote! i cant wait till' my ls/vtec turbo is finished this winter. i will have around $2000 in my swap and the turbo set up maybe more it depends on how nice/serious of a turbo set up i do i just know that my ls/vtec rods and pistons build is around $1000.
p.s. ls-t is AWESOME for daily driving. you dont have to rev the motor to the sky for power like you would a b16t!

Yeah, that's my plan. Down the road add a b16 head or something. I have the funds, but I don't know how much I want to put into this motor. I'm thinking to piece together a decent turbo setup it's going to cost me 2g with a decent tune. Hoping I can find a tranny, axles, mounts and linkage and keep the complete swap around 1g.
1. Is one substantially stronger than the other, as far as accepting boost?
2. which is your choice?
3. most reliable at 250whp?[/QUOTE]
1.LS
2.LS
3.LS
LS-T ALL THE WAY.
i may have a b18a swap in my car but it is nice. i have 175$ motor, 400$ tranny(gsr), 300$ clutch&flywheel(exedy), ebay bolt ons. if i were to go boost right now i would dedicate around 1k to a set up and tune and run low 12's all day long. you dont need vtec to go fast, its just the next level of performance once you need it. its alot easier to make power with a vtec engine due to the flow of the head but just for ***** and giggles a ls-t is a monster. you can take a non-vtec build very very far but it takes alot more experience and money due to everyone typically choosing the vtec counterparts. i would stay ls but for my goals in the near and distant future call for the performance that vtec will allow me and my budget to do!
Great point, I totally know what you mean. I plan on boosting the stock ls. If I were to build it, I wouldn't think twice about getting a vtec head. I wouldn't waste money doing valvetrain and such on a non vtec head. It's just not worth it. For right now, I think boosting the stock ls is going to be super fun for me. This is my first car, and right now it's just got the D in it. So 250whp is going to be a huge difference for me, and plenty, if not too much for a new driver
If your looking for only 250 whp then the Ls would be nice. Great low end torque and with a decent tune 250 is reachable on a bone stock Ls-T. With that in mind, once you boost you will always want to increase the boost and make more power. In this case the b16 is more ideal because you can achieve more power on the same amount of boost. Stock b16-T is a pretty reliable well past 300 whp
Just my $.02
