arp head studs without washers on accident
I came to inspect an engine built by a friend and found that the washers for the ARP head studs were not installed. We still have the washers just not sure what route to take. We dont want to spend the money on a new headgasket if it is not needed. My question is, can we install the washers by doing one at a time thus not releasing pressure on the headgasket..? will this work?

It probably can be done that way but the manual states that releasing the pressure that way can cause the head to warp it states to release the head by loosening the nuts in a specisfic order and by only turning them 1/3 of a turn at a time until you have them all off.

Thats if your undoing all the bolts, he's just planning to remove 1 at a time to put the washers on.

so you would rather take a chance at ****ing up a built motor then spend some money to on a new head gasket to fix it right how dumb are people

if the engine hasnt been ran(heat cycle) you could even remove the head and the head gasket is fine to use again. The real question should be if you should even use the washers at this point.

do one at a time and you wont have a problem... people should really pay attention or maybe have experienced builders do their motors for them
