I was just wondering if the A'PEXi WS exhaust system would be okay for boost. I know that backpressure is a bad thing with turbo cars. Believe that it has a 4" tip. Correct me if I am wrong.

 

the size of the piping matters more than the size of the tip. to answer your question, no, the WS isn't okay for boost because the piping is way too small, at approximately 2.25" sized piping, it's a bottleneck for boost.

 

But if I were to have custom piping made it would be okay, correct? What size piping would be ideal? I won't even begin my FI project until at least next summer anyway. Plenty of time to plan this out.

But then everything gets bottlenecked at the muffler, so it's still crappy. If you're getting custom piping, why would you buy the WS then? Just get a universal muffler with a larger inlet, and slap on a resonator to make it quieter.

 

The muffler is also a chambered design. You want a straight-through muffler.

 

I am glad that I read this. I was going to get a ws for my lude to replace my greddy sp on my sc'd lude. What muffler/catback do you recommend to quite down my exhaust. I have no cat but three resonator. I even dynamated my car to quite it down. But still too loud.

 

I'd just recommend going with a good universal muffler 3" with 3" piping cheap and effective

I was told it also depends on how much boost you're pushing, for ex., you won't need a 4 inch exhuast for 3-6psi or something like that.

But yes, the bigger is the better, but not as much when you're only boosting around 5 or so... So I have been told anyway.

 

The max I would run would be 15psi. Not planning on heavily upgrading the internals. Maybe just the sleeves, and other small stuff. Probably would just go with 10psi for the track, and half that for daily driving. Hell, there is a kid on HS who is running 17psi on stock internals on his 5th Gen Accord, and it has yet to blow.

instead of spending all that $$$, just buy an E Cutout. its well worth it, cheaper and more power

 

havent read any posts in this thread. just wanted to share that another member on this board lost 14whp over open header with this exaust, and that was on a mild NA setup

 

thats the beauty of having an e cutout. its like running open header.

you don't make any sense.

 

I would think the WS is fine for some applications, mainly low boost BSeries and SOHC setups. The piping is ~2.36in, and the design of the piping is pretty restriction-free. The muffler is chambered, but I cant see that being a HUGE issue with a car that isnt making tons of power.

Sure, if youre running a 250whp+ Bseries setup, you should probably invest in a 2.5"+ exhaust. But running 200whp+ on a SOHC or DOHC...I just dont see the exhaust being a restriction.

 

just use it and get an e-cutout on the downpipe.

 

whats an e coutout?

 

an electronic cutout. you can have a stock exaust with one, but as soon as you flip the switch. it electronically opens the exaust up to open DP.

an e cutout is a valve that you can open and close that is on your downpipe. Its like running open downpipe. check out this website for more info

Another boosted 6th Gen Accord owner is using a GReddy Evo. His dyno results at 10psi were damn near close to accordexchange's, who has custom piping with a 5Zigen turbo muffler. Guess it doesn't make that much of a difference I guess.
