you can, I did it. Then I put a 2.5" exhaust on and my turbo spooled up like 1k sooner and i got so much more torque in the lower rpms it wasn't even funny.

Re: Anybody running a stock exhaust with their turbo setup?
I put a B16 in my Civic and I was very unimpressed with whatever the supposed power gain was. This was with stock exhaust. Then I removed/switched the exhaust, and I swear to God it freed up like 40 horsepower.
That was a 1991 Civic Ex. And it was NA. Before I switched the exhaust, it was like I did almsot nothing. I imagine this being even more true when going turbo.

40 might be a slight exaggeration, but 5 is even more so. I went from high 16s to 15s simply by unbolting the exhaust. I'm no James Watt but I'm pretty sure it takes a little more than 5hp to do that.
I'm also not going to bust out my calculator, but I'm sure if you try to pump 160hp worth of air through a bottleneck meant for a civilized and economical ~100hp, you're going to lose a bit more than 5 of it...

I had stock exhaust on a my D16Y5 about 2 years ago, I made 165 whp and 155 tq at 6 psi.
The quietness was nice, but spool was pretty slow for a 50 trim.

I run a stock ITR muffler with a custom 2.5 inch piping, made about 300 whp...don't remember the exact numbers but I have the graph at home. I chose a stock muffler so that I can stay under the radar with cops here in the bay area.
Set up
stock ls-vtec
Blox manifold
Gt-30r
on 7 psi

I have one due to I'm smogging soon and the other exhaust I have has no cat (custom made). I feel a power loss and it does take longer to spool, but very quite. After I smog I'm putting the other one back on.
