i run a 3" down pipe with a reducer to a 2.5 greddy evo exhaust and it's not lout at all. it's only 98db cops won't mess with you with this exhaust.

you will lose sooo much power with stock exhaust its silly to even consider. My friend is running 2.5" exhaust from the turbo back and when he removed the silencer from the muffler he gained an instant 65whp.
Personally I run 3" right from the turbo back with no restriction with a HKS carbon Ti muffler and its hella deep sounding and have had no probs with the cops

I'll beleive it when I ehar it.. Not saying you are a liar. just it seems that everybody I've met taht has said taht, it sounds competlely louder then stock. Stock exhaust on a car is soundless pretty much. Can't even hear the exhaust unless you are right behind the car by the muffler. To the owner inside tehc ar it might seem quite, but everyone outside would disagree I'm sure.

If your wanting the quietness of the stock setup, but full power of a 3in setup, run a cutout. Im in the process of running one myself, still have quite a bit of fabrication to do.

I got kteller mandrel bent 3" all the way back, 18" resonator and magnaflow muffler. Its pretty quiet for 3" piping, and it looks mad stock.
Pretty much as long as you get a resonator and use something bigger than a canister style muffler it'll be quiet enough.

I had a 3" piping exhaust...with a CATCO (hollowed-out) high flow cat and a DYNOMAX round muffler. It was rather quiet with a nice low tone to it. Sounding like a mad lawnmower is so freakin RICED out!!!

I say go with the rule of the least amount of back pressure immediatelydown stream of the turbo. So, go with a 3" dp, to a 2.5" or 3" cat (yes, save the planet), then nothing smaller than a 2 1/4 exhaust withouta resonator & a straight through muffler w/ steel wool material inside. It's a compromise, you have less back pressure build up to rob power, but not as much exhaust noise. Face it, you will never find a free flowing exhause which is as quite as stock without some restriction.
