Another smokin bseries
Hey everyone looking for ideas on where I go from here. So I picked up a b20 on boost. I'm pretty sure it is a low compression b20 from a 97crv but not sure. It's supposed to have a stock ecu piggybacked with Neptune. And the rest of the turbo kit is eBay junk. Anyways had it running great for a while and then something took a **** when I was doing a burnout and oil was everywhere. So I replaced valve cover gasket and pcv and it's just pouring smoke from the valve cover breather. And making a bunch of extra noise. Almost like a Subaru with an exhaust but I'm running on all cylinders. Anyways I'm pretty sure from research that I'm getting head lift. Where Im at right now is I need as little down time as possible because this is my daily. So I need you nice folks to impart on me some wisdom. Do I get a new head gasket and arps and timing belt and all that junk or buy a b20 from jstar for $500. And if I get a higher compression b20 will it still be plug and play with my setup or do I need a new ecu/retune? Thanks
The smoke from the VC could be ringlands or other issues. The extra noise is a major issue. You could have other internal problems. If replacing the engine is an option, then I'd probably go for that.
A retune is still going to be needed to get everything perfect.

why would you beat on it if it is your DD? and as far as needing a new tune, you should always get a new tune when replacing parts affecting your motor and especially if you replace the entire motor. I cant tell what went wrong other than you probably boosted to high, your head might have lifted and you might have ran to lean. you have to explain more of what you changed on it, did you get it tuned or just trusted the other owners tune, did you up the boost. if you do not give us a story it will be very hard to draw conclusions.
Stupidly trusted the other tune but to be fair it never detonated or made any funny noises. A friend of mine told me I might have jumped timing so valve cover is coming back off tonight. I haven't been driving it I'm gonna try and save his motor if I can. What are other symptoms of ring lands going or floating a head?
Also what I've done to it since I've got it is radiator, alternator, fix leaking everything. Various exhaust gaskets.
I beat on it because my life sucks and I get small enjoyments from tire smoke and the dumb looks on peoples face when they realize that little p.o.s. car is pretty quick.

Off timing wouldn't cause smoke. Motor is done... you either cracked a sleeve or broke a ringland.... don't even bother pulling the valvecover.. pull the motor.
get a new motor and go na i would suggest a ls and read up on fi before you come back. im not trying to be an ***, just trying to save you some money. also your ringlands are cracked to tell forsure get a compression or a leak down tester and it will tell you.
