afc or smc? Id go with the smc...
#1 Its ALOT cheaper
#2 It has all the same features except a fancy bling bling display.
#3 Wait for the SMC+ that zip is releasing soon.

How much are he smc? I just ordered a v-afc for $290 shipped new. Also, the v-afc controls vtec while the smc dont.

You could use an inexpensive RPM activated switch, but if you need the vtec control anyways, its worth it to just pay a bit more for the vafc over the safc.
So, no you do not HAVE to use the Vafc.
To answer to original post, of course the afc is superior to the SMC. It costs three times as much!! But the SMC may be all you need, depending on what you are running.
