I agree that the SMC is great for the price but the AFC is adjustable every 500 rpm as opposed to the SMC+ only being adjustable every 1,000 rpm.

How much are he smc? I just ordered a v-afc for $290 shipped new. Also, the v-afc controls vtec while the smc dont.

OT: if you have vtec, do you HAVE to get the v-afc? or is it just an extra fearture? It only cost a few $$$ more.

 

You could use an inexpensive RPM activated switch, but if you need the vtec control anyways, its worth it to just pay a bit more for the vafc over the safc.

So, no you do not HAVE to use the Vafc.

To answer to original post, of course the afc is superior to the SMC. It costs three times as much!! But the SMC may be all you need, depending on what you are running.
