Default AEM EMS Dynoed!!!!!

Last night we were tuning my buddy's car with the new AEM EMS System and we got 371 hp & 352 ft/lb @ 7 psi!

We ended up blowing the motor though on our last run. We didn't go lean at all. The A/F was under 12.5:1 throughout the dyno run. I beleive we found the week link in the stock sleeves. We are pulling the motor tonight to see what the problem is. I am 90% positive that the sleev is what gave out. I have a hard time beleiving that the Cometic Metal Headgasket gave out. The other 10% possibility can be that the headstuds weren't torqued down tight enough, but I have a hard time seeing that as the problem. The only thing we swapped out from the car's 279 whp @ 7psi dyno was the AEM EMS, T3 .82 A/R Turbine Hosuing, & 550cc injectors. We were tuning the car for IDRC here in Arizona this weekend. I think we may throw a stock 99 Civic Si B16A in the car just to run this weekend!

You can the see the turbo setup @ http://www.b18bomber.freeservers.com/b18bomber.html

nice.

So you were running stock head bolts? What are the chances you stretched them, causing the head to lift?

No, they were ARP Head Studs, that is why I have a hard time thinking that would be the problem. The only other thing that it could be is if the head shifted because the head studs weren't torqued down enough!

remember this car has been rode hard, put away wet ! but nice work proves the AEM is highly capable and all the Max-Rev non-beileivers can shut the f@$# up now

It has made several 11 second passes! I am surprised the stock sleeves lasted as long as they did.

The only things changed was:

.82 A/R Turbine Housing
550cc Injectors
AEM EMS

The .82 A/R Housing had *A LOT* do do with the amount of power it produced at such low boost levels. The AEM EMS let us tune the car where it was under 12.5:1 on the sniffer! It was sick on the dyno! We should be able to make 450-500 whp with a sleeved block and 15-18 psi! We will have to get some larger 720cc injectors but at least I know we can tune the car to make some power with the AEM EMS!

What type of rpm shift in spool-up time did the .82 housing cause?

Oh, and GREAT numbers!!! That torque value is sick

Even with a good air to fuel ratio, it is still possible to have detonation.

We had full boost by 4500-4800 rpms!

Thanks!

I am 100% positive it wasn't detonation! There were no signs of detonation what so ever! I had dynoed many cars so I know when detonation occurs; it just wasn't the case! Like I said, I am almost 100% sure it was the stock sleeve that failed!

This was on a B18B correct? For a minute I thought it was a B16A and I nearly fainted... 350lb/ft on a B16 at 7psi

That is just sick. I can't BELIEVE you can make that kind of torque on 7 psi. That is TWICE the peak torque I had on my last dyno (B18C, 7 psi).

It is a B18C1 with a Stock Head, cams, valves, retainers.

The block was punched for 81.5mm JE 9.0:1 CR Pistons and has Eagle Rods w/ a Nuformz Blockguard. Stock sleeves!

Well, our last dyno was with the 370cc injectors, 8:1 FMU, and .63 A/R turbine housing and it layed down 279.x whp @ 7psi. We ran the 11.3 @ 123 at 14 psi! I was estimating the old setup to be making 310-325 whp @ 14 psi.

I think the biggest upgrade was getting rid of the stupid FMU

Man, I am thoroughly impressed by the abilities of the AEM unit. It is awesome!

The .82 A/R housing was swapped out last week since I knew it could hit 10's with it on the old setup. We were so close to 10's with the .63 A/R housing that I had to try it. Then AEM had their seminar a week or so ago and we decided we needed to try it on a car. The .82 A/R housing is what I prefer to use on most drag cars! I preach and swear by the .82 housing non stop! It made the power and proved my point that it cn make power.

We are sending the block out to be sleeved next week and go back to the dyno with the new motor. I am shooting for 450-500 whp with some 720 cc injectors.

This is still a daily driven car!

im amazed at those #'s. this guy drives this car on the street?? i noticed he is running 1000 lb springs in the rear and a stripped interior and that .82 a/r turbine, it must be annoying to drive on the street , but i guess if you are making that much power,it doesnt matter how annoying it is,its fast.

Shouldn't be significantly boosting a 10sec car on the street hehe.

It really isn't that bad. I have 600 lb springs on my car! It is his only way of transportation so we have to get it running tonight! We have a spare B16A from a 99 Civic Si so we are going to throw that in until we get the block back from getting sleeved!
