Default AEM EMS > best way for newbie ?

Hey !

I read all the topics I found about AEM EMS and Hondata

Here, there are no tuners able to tune each one...

I've been told that the AEM w/ the AEM Wide band had a "auto learn" function. True ?

Does it mean it's able to tune the car setup (D16Z6 turbo) SAFE, and then I'd just need to finish the tunes myself ?

HELP !

Some people will say hondata is easier and some say aem is easier (software wise). To tune with AEM all you need is a laptop and wideband. With the hondata, you will need things like romulator, chip burners, wideband, and some other odds things. That makes is more off a pain in the ***. I would go with the AEM is my opinion. And theres no "auto tune" on AEM either.

wrong buddy there is an auto tune feature on AEM. Aem has more user control than hondata. Both are great system it comes down to user preference and cost factor. Also even with AEM's new box design it will not fit properly in the stock location. The autotune option is only recommended to get a base map to get to a tuner though this is not supposed to give you a good final tune.

I have never used the "automapping" for the fuel table but it's there. Still. Whoever is using the AEM EMS has to set the ignition timing values. There is no automapping for that Ontop of that setup the knock control, fine tune engine start, idle, etc.

The auto mapping is worthless. It was added to the ems for marketing.

The AEM has a lot more features than the hondata ever will simply by design.

If you are going to tune it your self, learn to use the datalogs and start with low ignition timing. tune the a/f first, then add timing a little at a time.

A w/b is a must if you are going to try and tune it yourself.

Autronic makes a plug and play for the D16Z6 ECU.

I don't think the automapping is worthless at all. I found it made it much faster to smooth out all the A/F ratios in the wierd part throttle cruising maps, instead of trying to fiddle with every single one of them by yourself. It has it's place, but this guy definitely shouldn't think he can plug it in and it's going to make his car run like butter.

http://fjoracing.com/index.php best system you can get besides MOTEC. Auto tune with this system is amazing. My car went from not running to almost fully tuned in approx 3 hours. I strongly advise checking it out.

haha, you're funny... a competent tuner can be completly done with your average turbo honda in that ammount of time.

if you dont know what you are doing, pay a professional to do it, or start saving for a new motor.

so i take it u never heard of hondata s300 that came out back in august?? no more chip burning. the s300 has rtp. so basically all u need is a socketed ecu, wideband and the s300 unit. and hondata has autotune, but i haven't really found any real tuners who use that feature on any system.

thanks everyone or the ansers !

The aim is "find something easy, 'cause i'll tune it myself"

if I use the autotune, just to start the car, it's ok no ?
Then, what setting should I put to be SAFE about ignition timing ?
About the A/F, easy, w/ the w/b, no ?

I'd take the Autronic software over the AEM software any day. Damn them for releasing that board after I bought my EMS.
