aem ems. beginner?
about to buy all of my turbo stuff. just a question, is it safe to run aem ems with a base map from somewhere? i have no idea how to use aem ems yet. so is it scary to run a ems but dont have a clue how to use it. i hope it will be safe just to get a base map somewhere and just run like that for awhile.
If you get your hands on a decent basemap, then it will run fine (if its according to similar specs of your setup), but i wouldnt boost on it until u fully tune it.
would it be safe just to run 6psi on a stock itr motor with a basemap? would u do it? how about wideband tune for now, and wait to find a good ems tuner here. i dont know anyone here in new mexico could tune ems. they might know somewhat about it but i ain't giving it to them, i rather do it myself. my brother has uberdata in his gsr-turbo and it runs ok i guess for just a basemap but could use a good tune. how about i fly u down here Mase and u tune it for me and a couples of other friends?
yeah MASE, come out to the southwest.. you could tune in New Mexico then shoot south to El Paso and tune mine
I've been able to self tune mine accordingly, but I want to see the full potential of being "mased". haha

dont boost on a basemap, if u feel compotent enough to try to tune the car yourself, have at it, but realize you can blow up a car in a mere few seconds. you'll need a wideband of course. but w/ some general knowledge, u can learn it yourself.
as far as me coming out there, i'll do it, but finding the time to come out there, it would have to be a quick trip and in a few weeks.

I'm wondering how much of an altitude difference it would be, and how much it would effect the tune.
I know in the EMS there is a way to adjust the barometric pressure, don't know if this would work though.

True for someone that thinks they can just plug the EMS in and drive.
But, for a beginner that has spent some time doing his homework on some of the basic concepts, it's not really as difficult as everyone makes it. There are alot of people out there who learn to self -tune their cars. Some succeed, and others don't.
The point is, you can't be afraid to learn. If you are cautious and have an understanding of whats happening, go for it.

if the cars dont have issues, i can get 3 done in a day no problem.

heh, i dont think its funny sometimes, its a pain in the *** when people bring me cars w/ charge pipes blowing off left and right, boost leaks, fuel leaks, incorrect spark plug gap, timing belt issues, wiring issues, non working boost controllers, crap motors, busted *** turbo setups, etc etc. Im suppose to tune their car not fix it

ahhaha, damn. sounds to me like you've gotten eveything before. good thing my **** works right now. btw, i'll be making a trip to florida from tuscaloosa after i buy a few more things(msd, rod bearings etc) and will get in contact with you for an individual tune.
if you are running a fuel pump that can handle that high pressure. 6 psi w/ a 12:1 fmu works. id retard the dizzy timing a bit, but otherwise you shoudl be fine. my b18b was fine on FMU before i upgraded to a standalone back in the day
I wouldnt even say the basemap is to get the car to a tuner.. It just to start the car so the tuner can do their job.. Thats why they call them "Startup Calibrations".. Its not that hard to learn to tune the ems.. I read a good deal about it before I started and did all my own tuning..
Did have a few "quirks" along the way but learned from my mistakes and have tuned the car in my sig.. Runs like a factory car..
