Default Advice on a 400hp D16 build

I have a 50 mile round trip to work every day. I often find myself needing to pass slow people, and tractors. I would like something a little more fun to drive than my Pilot. I am wanting to to boost a d16. This is the basics I have come up with so far. Will be a fairly slow build, that I would like to get done within 6 months.

PARTS LIST
SpeedFactory No-Notch H Beam Long Rod and Vitara Piston Combo (not comfortable notching stuff myself hahaha)
STOCK D16Z6 CRANKSHAFT
Race Oil Pump (Moroso or ACL)
EBAY BLOCK GUARD
BRIAN CROWER VALVE SPRINGS
STOCK Y8 RETAINERS
ADJUSTABLE CAM GEAR
ARP HEAD STUDS
Oil Pressure Guage
A/F Guage
Then whichever Turbo I decide to go with. Will probably just be an ebay kit tbh.

Skip the block guard - Either stick to OEM sleeves, do CSS, or full iron sleeves. Adjustable cam gear isn't needed if you're using the OEM cam. Keep in mind you will also need a clutch/pressure plate upgrade, ECU, injectors, fuel pump.

Don't get an eBay kit unless you're prepared to make corrections to it, and possibly replace certain components. Go-Autoworks is the last reputable company that still makes full kits for D series.

Do you have a power goal in mind? If you do go the eBay route, at least get CXRacing.

That's a fair point on not going Ebay. I am hoping for 350-400 hp.

Do you know what 350-400whp feels like. You will be spending quite a bit to get a d16 to 350-400whp.

Unless going the e85 route. Which will still be a bit more dollars. So you will need to match your budget to your HP goal. The maximum amount of money willing to spend. Because it will add up.

Also noting what fuel is availiable in your area.

Finally, dont expect to have the build done in six months. Between waiting on parts, building it, and tuning, expect longer. Cant really say how long to be honest.

Agree with the posts above. To build a D-series to be a reliable 350+ whp, I'm going to say you need to budget between $6K-$8K or more. It can be done for less, but you'll be cutting into your reliability by using cheaper parts. If you budget correctly and spend less than that, take someone you love out to a nice dinner. For those power levels I'd plan to use E85. The Go-Autoworks Street Kit is going to be your cheapest, most complete entry level turbo kit that uses good parts. You may end up replacing most or all of the eBay kit in short order if you go that route, so it just becomes wasted money.

Here is my D-series build thread. I'm in the middle of an upgrade so my car is currently down, but it made 320whp on the initial setup and 400whp on the 2nd setup. Read through it to see what it took to get where I am with mine.

What 1/4 times were you running on the ~400WHP setup? I know you're replacing several components now and chasing 10s in a full weight car.

I thought you were pushing closer to 500+ for some reason.

Edit: Mid 11's? https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced.../#post52456475

Yep, that's my best slip to date and was with the 400whp setup.

Interesting, hopefully then I should also land somewhere in the 11's if I can get my B16 to the high 300s on a good set of tires.

I don't intend to drag my car often at all but I'd like to make at least one or two clean passes to see what it does.

What car would this D16 be going into? As someone else mentioned, 350-400whp is a lot in a FWD light weight car. I would recommend building a turbo setup for the stock engine first, pushing between 200-250hp and see how you like it. With that goal you can use a smaller turbo that will spool faster, which will be more fun and usable power on the street. I had a setup like this in my first del sol, it was an absolute blast and could easily overtake most cars on the road, was also budget friendly.

If you are set on 350whp+, you will need a lot of upgrades to the car to handle this amount of power safely and put it to the ground. Suspension, brakes, clutch, drivetrain, wheels and tires should not be overlooked. You'll quickly be getting yourself into a $15k build to do it right.
