Default 7 lbs w/o intercooler?

Just wondering if any of you guys boosted this much or more w/out intercooler. I have a d16 w/ apexi kit, fmu, and soon to be on fuel pump. My motor has almost 170k. Let me know if this is safe or what you have done. 7 lbs is the max I want to go and i just wanna know if I can hold off and get away w/ it non intercooled. thanks.

I dont see why you shouldnt. Run a compression check, and if your numbers come back good, and your not burning an oil, or loosing any other fluids, I would go for it. Just dont expect it to last TO terribly long

Intercooled, maybe...unintercoolered, I wouldn't personally. Do all of the appropriate checks tho first (compression, leak down) and give her a good tune-up tho too.

I just think 7 psi is a little much without cooling down the intake temps.

Why even risk it? I mean it's not like an intercooler is expensive. Just save your $ and keep the boost low until then.

I remember my RB20 intercooler would heatsoak, so I canonly imagine what non intercooled setup would be like. Even of you only get some cheap SMIC....it is better than none at all...

I did 7psi on a nonIC Z6 with 130k on it. I used a little nissan t25. did if for about 2 week while I waitied for my fmic to come in. The boost response was awesome but after about 2 hard pulls it got pretty hot and probably lost 20 hp or so. Man did 8 feel awesome with the IC after that!

A heatsoaked small (cheap) SMIC will still take a LOT of heat out of the charge air.

You *can* but why would you want to risk it? Intercoolers are dirt cheap power and reliability! It's the cheapest insurance you'll ever find! You can get a DSM, Probe/MX6, or Supra ICs for about $50 everyday on ebay, DSMTrader, or the H-T classified, and you can make the charge pipes for cheap if you use PVC and/or large truck radiator hose. Compare that to the cost, time, labor, and grief of rebuilding your engine and you'll see why everyone says don't do it.

yeah i did buy a dsm side mount but it wont fit behind the bumper so now i need a fmic for sure. i was just seeing if i could get away with it cause 7 psi is pretty much going to be my max on this motor. I'm now around 5.5 - 6 psi and just seeing if that extra boost to 7psi was worth the trouble.
