Default Small Turbosetup without intercooler - is this possible?

Hallo,

i was thinking about if it is REALY possible to build a small turbo setup (not that huge HP) without an intercooler on a stock engine.

i.e. a B16 ... whats about the high compression (10:1) is it possible without an intercooler or do i get big problems with detionation because of sky high iat's?

what if i reduce the compression to 9:1 or 8:1 ?!?

what do you guys think how much boost is the maximum with such a setup?

power is not that concern... if it only makes 180 HP it doesn't metter... its only to get an idea of where the limits of such a setup will be and whats the limiting factor.

Thanks
Malte.

a used intercooler can be had for $40-50

i think everyone would agree..

intercooler > no intercooler on street car and regular gas.
