Default 500 whp clutch question...

I am putting in my built, stroked, and boosted h22 next week, and I am kind of torn on clutch options. The current setup is a stock turbo h22 @ 366whp with a centerforce dual friction. This clutch has been great to me, never slipped once in the 3 years the car has been together. My question is should I leave the centerforce in there through the dyno tune (hopefully it will hold to 500whp on there) and replace it if or when it takes a ****, or should I preemptively switch it out for something stronger, but there will be no break-in whatsoever since it is going right on the dyno after a quick street tune? If you suggest switching it out, please suggest the best SINGLE disk SPRUNG clutch kit that I should use. I realize that unsprung will be better, but I hate them, and that twin disk would be best, but no way in hell I am spending more than 400 on a clutch, much less 1400.

id recommend a competion clutch stage 4 its a sprung 6 puck and feels solid but it nice to drive on the street as well... this will run you 300-400 depending on where you get it... i got mine here http://shopping.lightningmotor...t=727 and it came very fast and was well priced...! good luck hope all works out for you . let us know how you make out on the dyno!Im gonna be heading there soon with my turbo 2.0 gsr..

eh the stage 4 competition clutch is really pushing its limit on anything over 400hp.. Go with competition stage 5 sprung 4 puck clutch with the upgraded pressure plate. That clutch is a bitch to drive because of the upgraded pressure plate but it will hold 500hp and the extra torque that the h22 will put out. Anything over 500-550hp you should upgrade to a twin disk clutch anyway.

yoparts.com has this clutch kit listed for only $292.30

i made just over 500whp i have the LSD dragger clutch it works ok, the pedal pressure is rediculous, ive got 6k+ miles on it and has been to the track on slicks twice now... still holds fine

Not sure if i would get another as the pedal pressure is leg breaking rediculous

Im not sure because I bought my stage 5 through a sponsor before I was a member of yoparts.com. The sponsor acually had to special order the upgraded pressure plate for me.

I would PM tom@yoparts.com and ask him if it is included or not.

If you decide to go with the Comp stage 5 make sure you get the upgraded pressure plate. I'm not even sure why they would offer a "stage 5" clutch without a heavier pressure plate.

I ordered the Comp stage 5 and didn't know there was an option for the heavier pressure plate and that clutch only lasted about 20 runs on the dyno, ~200 miles on the street and broke on the launch on my first pass at the track

The pedal pressure it pretty harsh for a daily driver especially in stop and go traffic but you will get used to it after a while. Sooner or later your left leg will be significantly bigger then your right lol jk.

I have a ACT extreme pressure plate and a sprung 6 puck ACT disk in my 500whp setup. It has about 3500 miles on it so far and still holds great. It even held perfectly on slicks when I took it to the track. I would definitely recommend it.

I use a Tilton twin disc on a fully built turbo H22. It holds incredibly well and I have seen them used on 6-700 whp setups.
Forged Performance in Portland, OR has a low use H22 unit with discs, press. plate and flywheel, for around $700. Tiltons wear like iron and don't end up being prematurely scored and ground up like many press. plates & flywheels using the multiple puck type clutch discs.
If you are interested you can see it by Googling them and checking out their parts listing on their website.

The twins will give you additional headroom for power increases in the future. Torque output of your H22 is likely to be pushing many single disc setups past their limits.

Im making 540 whp and have the Competition stage 5 w/ the upgrade Pressure plate...its EASY to drive, like stock except a firmer pedal. All those people who whine its a PITA to drive are just shooting non-sense. Just takes a couple weeks to get used to, then you don't even think about it anymore

CC twin here, I know you say no way in hell do you want to spend money on one but they are worth it. I got mine for around a grand and it is holding great and very driveable. honestly it is easier on my leg than the single plate I had before which started to slip with MUCH less power.

CC twin if you want to hold the torque us bigger motors make, well in my opinion is the best.

well, here is the deal... the motor is overbuilt for what it will be doing. It was built for 700-800whp, and I am drawing the line at 500 so I can beat it how and when I want without worries. Everything other than the motor is set up for 500whp, sc6162sp turbo, dss 2.9 axles, mounts, and pump gas. There will be no room to go higher than 500whp, and if I decided to, I would have far more to upgrade than the clutch...
