-3an line with restrictor
Ive got a new journal bearing 6765 with a -3an feed line. Once the car warms up I start getting oil smoke out my exhaust. My return is -10an with no 90's or kinks in it and its not lower than the oil level in the oil pan. I was wondering if it would be ok to add a .065 restrictor with an -3an feed.

Re: -3an line with restrictor
Thanks I will try it. I wasn't sure it I needed to run a -4an feed if I was going to run a .065 restrictor. The cartridge is straight it is tilted a little but not more than 10 degrees.

Re: -3an line with restrictor
how many damn Precision turbos do this? this is an ongoing problem with them, glad im not the only one. i guess they are notorious for this.

Re: -3an line with restrictor
High oil pressures of a healthy honda motor tend to require a restrictor on many turbos as they exceed the max oil pressure the turbo is designed and rated for.

these threads are popping out of nowhere... Maybe bad assembly of the turbos on the production line... i would ship it back and get a new one.. A properly seal turbo shouldnt smoke regardless of an restrictor espec when brand new..

Re: -3an line with restrictor
All turbos have a design limit and rated max oil pressure. Its not a made up number, its there for a reason. You exceed it you risk pushing oil, even on a brand new turbo.

you can run the -3 with restrictor, thats what i use on my journal bearing turbo. also as the shodan said, check the clocking of the turbo, you want the feed and return as close to vertical as possible

Re: -3an line with restrictor
Ive got a brand new bullseye S362 and its pushing oil passed the seals and into my intercooler. I have a -4 with no restrictor right now. What I will be changing to is a -4an with a .065 restrictor. It says on the ATPturbo website that a .065 restrictor is what should be used for Journal bearing turbos and larger ball bearing turbos.

Re: -3an line with restrictor
Had the same problem with my SC61 and had to switch from a -4an feed line to a -3an feed line with restrictor.
By the way, this is on a fresh motor rebuild. The car ran fine for 2 years and 1000 miles with the -4an feed line...go figure???
