300zx t3 on b18c5?
My friend it planning to boost his jdm itr engine and was thinking about putting in a 300zx turbo, which I believe is a .60 trim t3?? anyways he plans to lower compression to about 9.5:1 with a thicker headgasket and better head studs. He also plans to use the vafc hack as down here in NZ there is no, or should I say no good tuners that can tune hondata and its also hella expensive for the unit.
Was wonder how much boost would he be required to run to get around 250whp and would this be ok with the stock internals?

I thought they used T-25's they have little turbos on them anyway. I would go with something that will flow more then they do. Whats wrong with Link? Expensive engine like that you are better off leaving bone stock running lowish boost well tuned.

You are correct, the T3 found on the older single turbo Z's are T3 60 trim compressors paired with a standard(-72) turbine wheel. IIRC the exhaust housing is a .63 AR. It'll probably take about 7-8 psi for 250 whp, mostly dependant on DP and exhaust system diameter and AFR.

yup as turbopimp said on the older model 300zx (pre 90's) they came with t3's, they're pretty hard to find in good condition though, anyone know any other jap car that comes with stock t3??
and as for the link managment system theres nothing wrong with it just the cost I guess, cost about $1300NZD depends on the extra options

Just get a turbo off a subaru legacy ihivf8 would work nicely water and oil cooled can be found cheap as chips, its the engine mananagement which will make or break the setup so you might as well shell out now rather then later.
I mean those engines are pretty expensive to replace right?

ihivf8, the same as on ur setup right? arent those like tiny?? whats the size specs anywas?
Im guessing it will be ok for a 1.6L sohc setup but on a 1.8 dohc it might run out of juice up top

Considering you want 250whp no there not tiny, BTW I have have VF22 flows upto 400hp
Edit I have found no spec on the vf8 they will break if you run more then 15psi though. I would guess there similar to a T -28.

If you're looking for cheap 60 trim T3's then just head over to your local boneyard and pull one off a 2.3 liter Ford Mustang or Merkur Xr4ti circa early to mid 80's. They're plentiful and cheap... then again there's always Ebay. The manuals came with .63 AR turbine housings and the autos came with .48 AR's.

Check it out, I paid $1000 nz mine has a ported waste gate hpc'd compressor housing and is strenghtned to run antilag {float has been taken out of the shaft} oil galleries been cleaned up.
Still for only 250whp it is not needed.

yeah I dont know if its a good thing or not, but be plans on running a turbo thats a bit large so that he creates some turbo lag, point is that hes doing this to his daily driver and he wants to create a car that doesnt suck up gas there for he wants to make full boost kick in at about 3500-4000rpm. Therefore he can drive around normally and when he wants some power either step on it or downshift into the higher rpms
good idea?

Nah not really a good idea (for that reason anyway) its easy to stay out of boost just by being easy on the throttle I can stay out of boost all day long even when I had the vf8.
But knowing how addictive boost is he may actually be smarter going with a nice sized turbo so he can run more boost later on, hes almost gauranteed to want to.
A T3/T4 turbos can be bought pretty cheaply in the US.
