Default 3 cats dead... What am I doing wrong?

I am of course referring to catalytic convertors. I want to keep my car SMOG legal.

But I have had nothing but bad luck with cats. First I used a 2.5" OBD-II compliant CatCo cat. After a couple months the heat shield fell off and the ceramic honeycomb fell apart.

Next, the CatCo was replaced under warranty, (had to buy one, cut the old one out and send for reimbursement), and installed the new one.

It lasted a little longer, but after 6 months it too had fallen apart.

So I thought that maybe CatCo was just crap. So I bought a Magnaflow cat. Stainless steel, awesome quality. I have had it for 3 months now... And I can hear the ceramic honeycomb rattling. It broke again! I haven't gotten a CEL yet, but I can hear it rattle.

So what am I doing wrong? I am using a flex section, rubber exhaust hangers, and a full exhaust. I am not burning oil. I have not gotten any CEL's for fuel mixture, and I run ~14.5 AFR at idle and cruise and pig rich ~10.5:1 at full boost. I don't boost that often.

Help!

Correct, lean it out in boost and it'll last ALOT longer.

Got it. So when I finally finish my MegaSquirt and lean it out not only will I make more power but my kitties will stop keeling over. Well, that's good news.

(Running super rich because using OEM ECU, which overcompensates for boost)

I don't think that's what they are saying, He was joking that you should lean out under boost to save your cat but at the same time killing your engine. I don't know of too many people running cats at all
