Do 2jz's rely on balance shafts alone to dampen harmonics? I can't help but notice none of the 'bling' includes a rubber-isolated or fluid-filled balancer, unless I've missed something. Reason I ask is because HT-FI guys seem to be more into fuction, while most other forums eat up the bling.

I can't understand why you'd feel the need to destroke it when not only are most Supra people stroking them out to 3.4L to get quicker spool + more torque, but you could rev a stock stroke 2JZ to 10K RPM's no problems. Piston speed isn't going to be limiting how high you can rev if you use good internal stuff, destroking it is just a waste and will make the car less streetable.

True story, there. This things smacks of "show car" more than anything worthwhile. The fab work is admirable, but if you were going to actually use the car for anything worthwhile, an LS1 would have been cheaper and provided a better powerband for almost anything.

I'm interested to see how that ebay intake manifold works out. It looks decent, you should post the tune and dyno info. when the car is done....

We recently had a customer show up at our shop with an ebay intake manifold and that same 3" throttle body for his stock B16,... ended up losing 8-10 whp across the board, but the throttle body was actually a decent piece.. I'm very interested to see the results you see.

... It looks like you guys are having a good time w/ the 2J

Why not just use a 1jz if you want it to rev?... or are you using any 1jz components?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by VtecKiDD &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">and for the "ls1 would be cheaper" comments, i just laugh cause those guys always come out of the wood work. LS1s are MORE EXPENSIVE THAN 2JZs and 1JZs. mount kits are the same price roughly.

Show me a LS1 that can make 1000whp for the price it takes a 2JZ to make 1000whp or a 1JZ.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Show me the 2JZ car that has a powerband half as useable as an LS1 with heads, intake manifold and a cam. An LS1 RX7 won't need 1,000 peak HP to be as functional as a 2JZ tuned to that obscene number. I'd rather have a 450whp LS1 in an RX7 than a 1000whp 2JZ...just personal preference

Overall, this looks like a sweet little project. It'll be fast and it'll be fun, but you won't be doing a lot of road racing with a 1,000hp 2JZ-powered RX7 I'm not hating on anyone, here, just commenting.

who said anything about road racing? haha

beleive it or not, it will have a good powerband with the size turbo thats on it now, cams, headwork.

of course you cant compare a V8 to a 3.0l Inline 6 in terms of usable power.

a 450whp LS1 will cost ALOT. Hell my friends have LS2s z06s and are saying its $7000 for heads, cam to get to 450-500whp. my buddy has a z07 that cost $27000 for the ENGINE PACKAGE to get to 550whp (granted the motor is built for much more)

a stock 2JZ with a GT35R would have a retarded powerband. but most supra guys want 1000whp to pull their 3600lb car. in this car, youll only need 700-800whp to REALLY move
