This will probably start an argument, but I say no. 2.5" will cause you to have a slower spool speed than a 3" exhaust, but it shouldn't kill the power.

add in a 3" straight pipe. it shouldnt cost u much money, especially if u know someone with a welder.

2.5" will be fine for that power level.

It will be fine but for a little bit more you could have 3in and be much happier with the spool time!

Im taking it that the setup is forced induction of some sort. Yeah if it were my choice id go with a 3 inch exhaust because even if you dont need it now a few horses later your 2.5 inch exhaust will become a bottle neck. You might loose some low end torque due to the effects of a larger exhaust pipe but iits well worth it.

That the collapse from the 3" pipe that he had to a 2.5" bottle neck because of the collapse killed a good amount of power. He noticed and felt it and couldn't find what was wrong. but in the end the restriction was the killer.

Shad at Acuracy dynoed my customer's car recently and made 274 whp @ 8 psi. This is on a stock GSR, Drag manifold, SC61, S200b, RC 550cc saturated, stock fuel pump, etc. The exhaust set-up included a 3 inch DP to a 2.5 cat-back on an RSR* muffler.

I could probably find a way to make 275whp on a 1.5" exhaust if I wanted, that wouldn't make it ideal though.

He didn't ask if it would be ideal though, he asked if it was necessary
