hell yea dude! i mean it sucks to know this happened, but now you know the problem!! huge stress relief.

wierd it collapsed, you exhaust isnt low to hit anything from underneath...

one of my friends had his flex joint go bad on his car, but he was hanging weight from it for a lil while

Yeah, i've seen them fail like that. It's not from outside damage, the internal braiding collapses. I've spent A LOT of hours trying to figure out a problem that came back to that! haha.

Makes me think I may not be reusing my $40 SS flex joint off my 'practice' exhaust after the steel rusts... Looks so odd, like its an eyeball staring at you.

I'll never have to worry about that because I'm probably the only one on this site that created a ball and socket setup instead of using the standard flex joint

I know it's not pretty, but it uses off the shelf parts and a 3" off the shelf graphite donut.

You might consider doing something similar instead of risking the problem again.

This is my functional prototype from 4 years ago, it has still never let me down. I bought 2 donuts at the time, but have yet to replace it...you can unbolt it and work on it if it ever needs repair without removing the DP. You could also just weld it on.

huh, I always thought the ones with the internal braid were better for some reason. Probably when they get pulled a little the liner slips out of the crimp on one end i guess

that's why you use flex pipe with ribbed insides.

Yup, I did the same thing about 3 years ago with a flex joint I got from some diesel supply place. My 3.5" dp necked down to 1"! The inner braid actually cost me more because it was "better." Did you run the two step through it? I thought that was what caused my damage.

thats how i went from running 10.70's to 10.20's at the same boost level last year. i spent SO LONG trying to figure out my problem.......it was funny when i found the problem, i was in the process of taking EVERYTHNING apart b/c i was so pissed off. once i got the downpipe off, i happened to look inside to find that. cut it out, put it back on the dyno, and gained over 100 horsepower.

It happened to me a few time, I used to build DP with a cheap Felx pipe I was used to bought at a muffler shop around here, supposed to be good all around flexpipe.

One day I realized that after making a 3in dp for my car, the car went laggier with utilisation time... at first I checked the turbo bearing.. no shaft play.. and found this...

Now i use the flex pipe that are metal cored inside and braided on outside... I can get pic's if someone don't know what I'm talking about. about 10 DP made with them since I switched and not a single problem.

A few down pipe I made with inside braided flex pipe are still running find for your information... failling is prolly not systematic.

Ive never even seen braiding like that on the inside. The ones I get have the harder flex sections and then the braiding on the inside.

SPD Exhaust sells those. They use em on F1 cars and F-16s. (Not cheap)
