What you need to do first is research. If you try to rush building a setup w/o any knowledge of turbo setups, you're going to encounter problem after problem. There are a lot of ways to go about turboing your D. As far as a realistic goal, dont think in terms of PSI, but rather in terms of horsepower. If you shoot to make 220whp or less, your D should be fine as a daily w/o too much concern

you can run a 45r if you keep it at about 3 psi.

it is the power level that kills the engine. a normal t3-t4 plenty or power can be made w ith that turbo. as far as the ecu, if you want any tunability, obd0 88-91 will work, but 92-95 will work better.

you can do something like what im putting together this weekend for my d16y7, went out to the junkyard grab'd a turbo off a mitsu starion or a chrysler conquest, starion FMIC or side mount, DSM BOV, DSM 450cc injectors, a HF/STD (stock exhuast manifold on crx hf's and civic std's) machine up a adapter plate for it and a fab up a downpipe and your pretty much set, if ur gonna run low boost like me 5-8 psi as far as fuel managment cheapest is a FMU which is relatively safe at low boost lvl's but above that go a different route, I put together this whole setup for about $300 maybe
