Default 14psi on d16?

can i run 14psi on a built d16z6 block without resleeving, just a block guard?
And how much boost can a td04-15g greddy kit hold? Thanks

You should be able to push 14psi *well tuned* on stock sleeves with a BG. In fact a few members have pushed more w/o one and lasted quite a while, but a good BG would be a great measure of insurance. Get it on a dyno and get it dialed in properly, 1 bar not a problem.

I dunno about the rods at that high of boost... they are sooo tiny!

i'm running stock sleeves, only with blockguard and my hybrid piston/connecting rod combo, and i'm boosting 18psi safely (but i drive 15psi daily just to make the engine last a little bit longer)

note, the key to engine longetivity is with the tuning. standalone engine management is a MUST. don't expect to do it safely with FMU or VAFC/SAFC.. you need something thats able to adjust/retard ignition according to your RPM too..

i think i'm in the same situation as you. i have some crower rods, but i am still in the market for some pistons. however, i was looking to get 10.5 srp pistons, but i'm not sure what bore to get. i was thinking of going with stock bore since overboring it will make the cylinder walls thinner (i won't be resleeving), but i don't know how much .020 overbore would make a difference. right now, i'm leaning towards stock bore, but i'm hoping to learn some more in this thread, since i can't speak from experience...yet

depending on how well you walls are you might have to bore it out to get rid of scars. so keep that in mind when you get your pistons!!!!

also f-max had a d16 running 14 or 15 psi on stock bottom end with just ignition retard and thicker head gasket. here is the site! http://www.f-max.com/D16A%20VTEC%20DYNO.htm

so would going w/ a .020 overbore make the walls too weak to run 14psi w/ a blockguard? The car has over 170k miles on it so thats why i wanted to get the overbore pistons. I don't know how well the walls are. Thanks for replying

If you're talking about boring the stock sleeves, hell no! Those are thin as it is, to bore them and then add 14psi to the mix is a recepie for disaster. Keep your bore stock or sleeve it. Paper thin sleeves even with a BG will crack, it's inevitable.

what if the stock bore is not perfect and you get a stock bore will that pose a problem w/ leaks or anything?
Thanks

Ring seal will be nearly impossible. If the block needs it, you must overbore. Either that or find another block with a good stock bore if sleeving is not an option.

.020 is like nothing. I don't even think you can call that boring.

I would get the .020 just to make sure its perfect. I've done it. I haven't had any problems with it.

good point...i have a spare block that i'm building up. i haven't taken out the pistons yet so i haven't been able to examine the cylinders, but i'll probably do that this weekend.

Is there a way to know if your cylinder walls are round without removing the pistons?
