just wonderin, how much boost can a new civic (non vtec) handle on stock internals safely? also much horse can you safely get outta them w/o going crazy (meaning only light mods, headers exhaust cai and maybe a forced induction setup)?

/bump

anyone got any ideas? anyone boost a new civic? my guess is they can run 7psi safely and get like 220ish hp at the flywheel but i'm not exactly an expert. a buddy of mine runs about 7 psi through a jackson racing s/c on a stock gsr engine with headers/exhaust and cai and he is seeing about 280ish whp i believe or atleast we think.

all i found on the D17A1 was a single post that didnt help too much... can you really even do anything with this engine?

why did you buy a brand new civic to turbo? you should sell it and get a slightly older civic (pre-2001) with better aftermarket support.

i didnt buy one, i'm thinking about buying one. i would really like to get a late 90's integra gsr (could settle for a gs/ls) or civic si, but they are impossible to find and cost an arm and a leg. new civics are relativly cheap, esp since the interest rate on a new car is significantly less than a used one, plus i'll get to break the engine in myself.

basically i really WANT a dohc motor, but i'd like to know what performance i can safely get out of a new civic.

I'd say look in the H-T classifieds, there are tons of GSR's, Type R's and Si's for sale, not to mention LS's and whatnot. Keep looking.

You can easily pick up a 95 GSR for 5000-5500 bucks. That is a great starter car.

i am def still looking at a gsr or si, but the new civic is still an option. i'm basically gathering that it is not worth it to get a new civic. i'm not looking for something insanely fast. the main reason i'm asking about boosting a new civic is that tho the car drives nice (obviously its a honda), it just wasnt fast enough for me and if i got it i would definitly want do something to it to bump up the fun factor. i'm looking for just a little more speed. i'm coming from a 91 lude 2.0 si, which is not a fast car by any means, and it had (atleast felt like it did) more ***** than the couple brand new civics i've test driven and thats at 200k. plus i'm not crazy about the drums in the rear on the new civics. i'd consider splurging for the new si but it is ugly as all **** and the vtec system in it kinda sux.

/me wishes honda would bring the lude back from the dead
