Default Self Tune?

Ive done some research but nothing major. i just have a quick question. Ive read several places that say you can tune yourself, like with crome.

Whats needed to do that?

Ive been trying to price a decent build (d16z6) that dont need a tune bc there arent any actual tuners close to my area.

But ive come to a conclusion that if i want some actual Hp difference from stock ill pretty much need a tune.

Im not big on all the techy stuff, more on mechanical.

Info would be greatly appreciated.

Read http://www.phearable.net/tech/efibeginnerguide.html

I would suggest using hondata s300 or neptune rtp if you are trying to tune a car your self.
The price difference is minimal and the software & support is much better for the systems.

^^ sorry, i confused myself, i didnt exactly mean standalone, a buddy of mine had a turbo ek hatch, he had the management system for his fuel system that it would automatically adjust the fuel for the amount of boost. idk what it was called. i cant seem to find a picture of it either. it was made by aem but idk what it was. i feel like a noob asking these questions.

i do remember it sat right above his fuel rail.

That was probably an FMU which is not the proper way to tune...

fmu will give you more fuel but enough(lean)? or too much(rich) both conditions will not be optimal hp. na or fi? fmu wont work on na too

aem wideband $175
chip burner $100
chip kits $20, assuming you can solder the kit in and you dont need vtec, $20 to add vtec to the obd1 ecu you need
crome or uberdata(I use) both are free

An fmu is just a big fuel pressure regulator.
Using one is barbaric when you have a electronic fuel injected vehicle that will allow you to tune the vehicle using the engine computer.

Google what an fmu is & does.

my next question kinda refers to what this guy said.

i want to be able to hook my laptop up to my car. i want to be able to tune it myself. idk whats needed for this.

i want to know all the equipment needed to be able to tune yourself.

and yes, ive googled and searched. my work internet wont let me pull up much. i work at a school so most of everything good is blocked.

S300 or Neptune/Demon will be the most hassle-free solution for tuning on your own with a laptop. You can do it for slightly cheaper with crome/otrich/hulog, but it's worth the extra money to me to have it all consolidated inside the ECU.

Not even that, the usb cable is included with s300.
All you need is your laptop & a wideband oxygen sensor gauge.
