I just chipped this P28 for a buddy and noticed this hack job down by the EPROM socket... someone appears to have "replaced" a resistor with this piece of wire and I'm trying to figure out why... the ECU ran the car prior but it had a solid CEL and I couldn't pull the codes.
When I chipped it, put a P28 Crome gold Base tune in the CEL stays on and the car doesnt rev past 4000rpm. Tried burning several chips and it does the same thing. We swapped ECU's and it runs fine.
My question is, is this missing resistor important and is it conflicting with my chipping job (done several with no problems) or did I mess up somewhere? Anyone seen this type of "repair" on an ECU before?

completely normal this ecu was an auto ecu and someone converted it to 5speed. normal.
did you remove the checksum when you burned the tune?
if not it would cause it to go into limp (4K rev limit)

Aha! so this is all thats done for a A/T to 5 speed conversion? sweet, didn't know that.
Yes, removed the checksum every time, still a solid CEL and 4k rev limit.

sorry, if you don't have anything constructive please don't waste my time or yours. Hondas are new to me, I've been tuning Fords/GM's for many many years. Great way to promote your business too by the way.. I'll surely be ordering from you when I need something... NOT!

First of all they are not customers, they are friends that I'm helping out that don't want to touch an ECU or soldering iron. I don't charge a dime. I've researched chipping ecu's enough to know how to perform a simple chipping procedure, nothing ever came us as far as changing from A/T to 5 speed, so no I've never looked into that nor have I done it.
Truth doesn't hurt one bit fella, guess your business is doing real well for you to have all this time on your hands to be on here trolling my simple post picking arguments... get a life pal.
