Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

It wont let me update the firmware because it can't detect the device. I even replaced the 3 AAA bateries and nothing looks burned on the board. I really hope I didn't get ripped off. Here are some screen shots.

Check your USB cable. Otherwise, the board may have a bad usb chip.

I tried a different cable and nothing. The data logger installs just fine using both of those cables so it's not that. Can the USB chip be replaced?

Theoretically, I haven't personally used one, does the datalogger/emulator appear as two different USB devices or something?

Because if not and it's loading the driver, it's at least detecting the device IDs etc.. You need to be able to log the USB stuff somehow. Linux would be a good tool but there's no linux drivers probably but you could still find out if its connecting at all / what point in the connection it dies

Looking at your errors again, it is possible the FTDI chip is having an issue, it would be replaceable though, yes. I bet Moates would help you fix it?

The emulator and data logger are two separate units. FTDI does sell a replacement chip but it's tiny and I'm not sure how I would solder it being that it's so small

I've been talking to David for the past few days. He has been pretty awesome. He told me to send it to them and they would repair it. Which is awesome seeing as I didn't buy it from them. So hopefully in a few weeks I will be up and running.
