New chip throwing codes
Well today i got my chip i purchased from ebay to see if the tune on my current chip was making my idle bounce. Well with the new chip installed i poped a few CEL's i got code 7, 20, and 41. Does anyone have an idea as to why i would throw these codes with the new chip? B16A in an 91 civic dx. My old chip had no CEL's
The old chip probably had 20 & 41 disabled. Not sure why the TPS code came up. Who created/burnt the ROM (base map/tune) onto your original chip? They might be able to better answer your question.
Thats true if i knew i would ask i bought the car with the chip and swap already in it. I was having idle problems and checked everything and was down to the ecu so i figured i would swap the chip to see if that would work and so that was the reasoning for the new chip. So im curious if maby for some reason someone disabled the tps as well?

It wasent a universal chip i told him what i wanted i didnt know that stuff was disabled on my old chip. He asked for my set up and what i wanted for rev limit 2 step vtec engagement all that stuff. I just find it strange that i get the tps CEL with the new chip and not with the other. I do have an idle problem it idles too high and bounces once i touch the gas. I could leave it idling and it would be fine the second i touch the gas it starts bouncing, which is why i went for a new chip.

Ya the tps tested .48 so im not sure why it was showing as a cel the guy on ebay told me he has been tuning cars for years, so not sure what to think now.... Also i cant seem to find an O2 sensor even on my car, and i was told alot of the time people dont run O2 on b16 swapped civics and that they can run like that i mean i did pass emissions without it, but i am curious if that could be the reason for my bouncing idle.
could be bad IACV or a vacuum leak. check the FITV under the throttle body.
The o2 sensor will not affect idle especially in obd0.
Well i have already checked IACV and cleaned no change. I also cleaned the FITV no change, and ive sprayed around the engine bay no change in idle, and it bounces between 1k and 1.5k doesnt always do it sometimes i can come to a light and it will be fine next light its bouncing. Also the idle doesnt drop quickly like most cars when u press the clutch in, and when i try to adjust the idle screw the idle will only get to 1k at the lowest turn, but when i unplug the iacv and its warm the idle drops down to like 7oo and stays. strange huh.
No that is not strange at all. Considering the IACV is supposed to be disconnected when you are setting your base idle.
Do you know what your idle RPM and IACV % are set to on the tune? Also when you cleaned the FITV did you also try adjusting it?

I did disconnect the iacv when adjusting it but once i turned the car off and reset the ecu the idle still was high and bouncing. Also no i dont know the idle rpm and iacv% which is why i tried to go with a different chip to see if someone turned that up and it didnt change with the new chip. If the timing was off would that cause idle bouncing? just trying to think of stuff i know the person before put adjustable cam gears on it.
OK so it wasn't bouncing at all when you disconnected the IACV? If that is the case then I would suggest replacing the IACV. Then if that doesn't work take your car and have it tuned properly. You really shouldn't be running a base map that you purchased online in open loop (No O2 Sensor/ or data) It could possibly damage something if the maps aren't 100%. Also I doubt that not having an O2 sensor wouldn't cause your surging idle.
The open loop is what i purchased the vehicle with. So not sure what has gone into it, and for tuning it there is no way im getting a stock b16 tuned so thats not possible i can deal with a bouncing idle tuning is super expensive. I will get it tuned in about 3 months when i get the turbo set up purchased and installed. I will try the iacv even though the resistance is in specs i suppose.
If your engine is stock try running a stock ECU and see what happens. At least that way you can determine what, if anything, is wrong with your car. You will be able to diagnose the surging idle by eliminating any chipped ECU/tuning issues. Borrow a stock P30 and O2 sensor and trouble shoot from there. At least that way you might have a chance of getting it running properly.
