Honda del sol with ob2 ECU-change to OBD1 and insert a chip?
Hello Honda guy's
I'm currently in this situation. I bought a chip, .to soldering onto the ECU (piece or cake)
BUT, when I took apart the ecu, I quickly noticed, no where to soldering the chip. And it's because my 1996 del sol is running the newer Ecu with the more compact components in it .
So now that the Chip is no go, I was wondering, is there any other way to adjust vtec and get launch control . because that's what I was hoping to get out with the Chip I bought. I'm not looking for any for of increase in hp. I just want vtec to kick in at 4800 instead of 5600 and then ofcourse getting that 2 step launch .
My engine is the d16z6 esi...
Please help !

You could use an OBD1 ECU with an OBD2 - to - OBD1 wire harness adapter. Then you could add that chip. What are you looking to use for tuning/programming the chip?
I have to be honest with you. I have never had much success with altering the stock VTEC engagement point on a stock engine. Honda has done a lot of R&D into where and when the VTEC system engages.
Now, in saying that, do you have any modifications that would warrant the lowering of the VTEC engagement point?

Yes you will need a obd2a to obd1 jumper harness and a chipped obd1 ecu. When I tune z6 motors I usually end up with vtec around 4600 or so. Most of the benefits are from cleaning up the ignition maps as they are kind of all over the place stock and advancing it a little for premium fuel.
