Default best option

hey guys im new to the engine managment part of tunning and was wondering which is a better tunning platform. the neptune rtp or the hondata s300. i have ls block boared 10 over 8.5:1 comp pistons scat rods, 540cc injectors, small front mount. someone said they would sell me a year old s300 with boost and solenoid installed in a p28 for 500. is that legit? or should i get the neptune rtp with boost brand new 480 installed. i want to learn how to tune so im gonna try to learn on this system so input is apreciated. thanks

Check out the software for both and see what works for YOU. You're going to get opinions both ways.

they both seem crazy to me lol. pretty simple it seems untill i get to the fuel trim and compensation. what is the easiest way to learn this stuff. the help files? or should i find someone in socal that knows what to do. i dont want to go to a dyno though i want to tune it myself.

The help files will help.
Using a dyno to dial in ignition timing is a good idea...

Purchasing the system from a dealer that can provide good support is also a good idea :-)

I'll ask here because I figure the answer will be useful to the OP:

Is there any way to guess at ignition timings without using a dyno? I thought I remember seeing somewhere that exhaust temps could be used...

Probably the most common is the LC-1 with a separate O2 sensor, but Innovate now makes an all-in-one gauge/controller/sensor system called the MTX-L. It's supposedly simpler to set up and a better controller than the LC-1.

I'm in a similar boat as you, I think, and I've just gotten one (along with NeptuneRTP). Not installed yet, though.

Price mostly, since I've got a kid on the way. Neptune is at least as good as Hondata and a bit cheaper. Plus HRtuning is a good guy with great support. I also downloaded the software and it seemed like it would meet my needs and be friendlier than Crome.

yeah the initial setup seems easier on neptune than hondata but ive never heard to much about neptune. also for me i can get a hondata for 100 more than a new neptune but used but its installed in a p28 already so if i ever switch to vtec im cool but i dont know if i ever will and thats not a good enough reason for me.
and does anyone know about the egt ignition timing like gagnar was saying?

Mtber (aka Phearable.com) sells both UEGO and LC1/MTX-L. I doubt he'd weigh in on a difference publically, but if you pm him I'm sure he can give an honest recommendation.

Hopefully someone will answer our questions about ignition tuning. I suspect they'll say it's not possible because variance you get from street tuning makes it impossible to see small changes in ignition timing.
