I think it is fun to try and do, mostly because it is challenging and forces you to amke your car do something it isnt designed to do. I think it looks cool, but it is not the most effective way around the track, unless you are talking about a rally. Also, it is really dangerous to do around people.

Drifting contests:

The challenge of drifting:

Drifting is gay. What kind of motorsport makes a contest of how slow a person can drive around the track while trying as hard as they can to break the car?

Just woke up

Its these kind of posts that bother me.

Again, its not about speed, when was motorsports only about speed? Who cares? why cant someone have fun without someone dissin on what they like?

P.S. breaking the car? Who broke what car? A very good drifter doesnt crash their car. THere is a image that drifting = crash. From how i learned it, this was said by a racer in Japan, that drifting could be useful when you go out of control in track racing. A person who drifted knows how to control the car over its limit very well, therefore being able to control the car when its so called out of control. Yes its true that when people first start, they crash their cars. Well... I never did YET

EDIT:
Nice research Cobra
I dunno about every drivers and what they did, but thats the two that popped into my head who ranked somehow and were good at drifting.

Oh well, ill leave it like this. I understand where the "Drifting is ghey" is commin from, but I just cant take it cause its something I like. And when someone talks poop about something I like, it just bothers me.

It's fun but only practical in off-road rallies.

Drifting is awesome!! I do it all the time in my Cavalier on the dirt road to school! I landed in a ditch once and just laughed, backed out and kept going. If your doing it to look cool or even on a populated road (or in a good car) its dumb.

see screen name

Of course drifting is not the fastest way around the track at the local scca solo II competition, far from it. I would like to do rallying some day, it looks really fun.
Regardless drifting is just a fun thing to do.

Why because I have an opinion?

Again, its not about speed, when was motorsports only about speed? Who cares? why cant someone have fun without someone dissin on what they like?
For some of us, it's all about speed. Performance is what matters, not bling bling cars or bling bling driving. IMO the only kind of car competions that are worth anything are contests of speed. Stereo, car shows and drifting just don't qualify.

P.S. breaking the car? Who broke what car? A very good drifter doesnt crash their car. THere is a image that drifting = crash. From how i learned it, this was said by a racer in Japan, that drifting could be useful when you go out of control in track racing. I'm not talking about crashing the car, although there is that risk, even the est drifters wreck thier cars. In fact the best ones probably wreck more often because they don't really care about the car. I'm talking about breaking it mechanically for no good reason other than you want to look cool. Drifting is extremely hard on the car, it's hard on the clutch, hard on the tranny, hard on the suspension, and even hard on the chassis itself. Cars are designed to roll forward, not slide sideways.

Bottom line is that while it may be fun to go slide around in your car, making a competition of it is silly at best. It's kind of like figure skating for cars.

Oh well, ill leave it like this. I understand where the "Drifting is ghey" is commin from, but I just cant take it cause its something I like. And when someone talks poop about something I like, it just bothers me
No offense dude, but get used to it. If you like it, that's fine. If I think it sucks *****, that's fine too.

While I think that drifting is just popular because SuperStreet say's it should be, and that it is as gay as Rudy Goulindo[sp??], I do not see why everyone hates car show stuff so much.

I am a fan of show cars, as long as that is what they are( not many people can pull off a multi-purpose vehicle ). All I am saying is that there is room in the Automotive enthusiast world for Stereo, Show, Race, hell even demolition derby...LOL....and even gay *** drifting

I guess I just really like cars, and almost anything having to do with them

most people (like me) can't drift well enough to be able to go faster than gripping..but it's fun trying to copy Initial D..

from what ive tried, i think i go much faster gripping with a little slide occasionally.

oh yea, and what's the point of e brake "drifting"? Isn't that just another flashy riceboy trick?

And how does that picture show that drifting is advantageous?

Why don't you just post a pic of an F1 car sliding and say "Look! Drifting rulz Y0!"

So what. In the line you quoted from me I asked to see where it is ADVANTAGEOUS. Simply posting a picture doesn't tell me that.

I can tell you why he is doing it however. That is what the car is set up to do. Try taking a dragster through some esses. Sure it will make it through but what is the likelihood of it clipping the apexes? Slim to none. Does that mean that off-line non-apex cornering is the best way through that turn? No but that is the best way for that car because it isn't set up to do it the right way.
