It certainly looks cool, but the forums that are dedicated for "drifting" and how "cool" and "trendy' the term has become is quite stupid. 99% of the people who talk about it have no friggin clue what they are talkin about and what they are doing. Yup, GHEY

It looks cool in a movie or a demo (I used to do it with my moms 89 town car) but for street aplication or for those who use the parking brake to do it..... dumb

I know. Drifting is awesome. You have to have the right platform though (I think ebrake drifts are MAD Ghey). I love going off in my car, or my buddies Silvia. So fun. Also, a controlled drift can be the fastest route in certain situations.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! What situations? When you are in a dirt road road switchback? Yes maybe but I DARE you to try and tell me one situation ON PAVEMENT where drifting is advantageous.

it depends on the car. I don't mean the freaking totally sideways 90 DEG drifts that go on mag covers, I mean little tail out to give you some oversteer. There is a difference. For instance with my car, unless you upset the rear it tends to understeer. By kicking the tail out (romping on it, etc) it actually overtsteers.

That isn't drifting. That isn't even close to drifting. That is called rotational oversteer. Your rear tires are not actually breaking traction. You are actually transferring the weight to the front which allows the car to pivot more rapidly.

A 4-wheel drift is fast in some cars but once again that isn't what we are talking about here.

Damn, Type C got seriously smacked.

4-whell drift works wonders in the uphill portion of VIR in my car but like Cobra said, totally unrealted to what we're talking about.

For the love of god... I don't understand why people here hate it so much. So it is not the fastest way around the track... who cares... speed isn't everything.

I don't think we "hate" it so much as we think it's stupid... and it amuses us to see someone try to justify it as a racing technique. If someone's just out for something they think is fun, then have at it (on a closed course, not public streets), but don't try to convince racers it's a good technique for getting around the track quickly.

I wouldn't say I hate but I dislike anything that everyone and their grandmother tries because it's the new fad.... and that's what drifting is, a fad. Buy a pet rock and call it a day.

...and drifting is something that happens in a race, it's not the whole race.

Is the next trendy thing going to be "launching" ?

Where the goal is to have the coolest, most stylish launch ? lol

I agree with you all on the fact that it's not quick. But I like simply because it is fun to do. And no I don't drift my honda.
