Unless your completely sideways your not taking up much extra room + the shorter wheelbase makes controling this much more difficult and you dont exactly have lots of extra power so unless it's minor you've lost alot of forward momentum

On the other hand CRX's do get squirly and when they do there tough to pass in many situations without contact, some people don't care and we have contact vidoes galore.

However I'm not sure what kind of eight lane highways you race on but alot of tracks don't do well with more than 2 abreast so the extra space left may not be enough to make a pass.

Or maybe there is room for a pass but the other driver is forced off into either marbles or offcourse, maybe the road flattens out mid corner like the first corner @ big willow.

And lets face it who ever your infront of trying to keep behind you is there for a reason, so he's not likely able to simply drive inside of you. and given your racing other cars similar I asume he will have the same problem with momentum so he'd have to get a run on you into the corner which will likely be upset when your car begins to step out

Then again maybe not, maybe the other car came from the back of the pack and was anticipating you blocking him and picked a spot on course to set you up.

That was why I prentensed it with "can" </TD></TR></TABLE>

have you ever even driven on a track, let alone driven in a wheel to wheel race?

Come on now... things like "experience" and "proven results" have no place in this thread... we're supposed to be discussing how the uber coolness of a perfect JDM drift will summon the rice gods and magically make you faster than the guys who are driving properly.

Seriously though, it seems that the guys who are actually talented at drifting know that doing it in a real race is slow and stupid. However, these people are few and far between. There are an awful lot of wannabe drifters who actually think it's fast... such ignorance is sad and it disappoints me in the human race, but it is unfortunately part of the automotive "scene". F&F 3 comes out in a couple of months... I'm planning to get a group together to go heckle the movie (Mystery Science Theater 3000 style), then we'll sit out in the parking lot with popcorn and watch all the idiots crash as they try to drift on their way out. The thought of busting idiot ricers makes me want to be a cop sometimes, but I suppose that would be a bad reason to put on the job application.

Yeah, yeah, smart guys... Maybe if I drifted through all the turns I'd get top time... I liked the guy's comment in this thread so much I added it to my sig...

I'm pretty sure a good drifter could go all the way around a track at an average speed of around 10mph. If that doesn't prove he's fast I don't know what would.

it seems to me alot of people confuse cornering with high(er) slip angles with drifting. I'm waiting for the price of my 240sx to jump up after the movie.

No, I think we all know the difference between a little bit of oversteer and drifting. The OP did state the he was talking about the "drift craze".

Yeah, really... I know that people are already trying to sell those old ****-box "AE86" Corollas for like $5000-$10000. Of course, they just get laughed at, and no one seems to be buying them... lol

omg this is a funny thread! drifting will get you around certain tracks faster (race drift not show drift) if you're good at drifting, because you can enter a turn much faster and scrub off speed while you are in the turn as opposed to braking before the turn. the reason why you dont see a lot of drifting in races is because tire wear and it's too much of a risk spinning out. if you guys watch dirt track racing you will see that all they do is drift around a small oval track if they try to grip around it theyd lose so much speed because of the track conditions causing massive understeer.

Once again, no. If you want to enter a turn faster and scrub off speed, that's where you use an early apex with trail-braking. That scenario comes up in Turn 1 of the last track I went to (PMI in Pueblo, Colorado), and drifting through there would be the stupidest thing that you could do.

Dirt is not pavement. We're talking about pavement here.

Considering the amount of "intelligence" I've seen in this thread, I wouldn't be surprised if someone started arguing with you about that.

NO NO NO YOU ARE SOOOOOO WRONG!!

Only JDM dirt is pavement, actually it is better than North American pavement because they have engineered it to repair itself.

Wait a minute. Dirt ain't pavemunt? All we gots here in Alabama is dirt. Ain't that pavement? My momma says so. I drift in the fishing boat with my cane pole and a worm on the hook. Is that the same? If so I likes drifting too in my JDM John boat.

Hey, is it just me or does this thread make anybody else wonder about setting up the equivalent of the Special Olympics for racing?

You're too late. It's been done already http://www.d1gp.com

It doesn't matter how fast you are, cause everyone is a winner in the D1 special olympics
