Not to sound like a complete idiot here, but what exactly is a shakedown run?

Just like a test run or practice run....its basically a pass thats not taken too seriously...most of the time....shakedown is just a slang term used by racers

 

Okay... so it's just like: "We'll run it just to see what it does" kinda thing?

getting all the bugs out , stuff like that . not a full run down the track .

 

nah, its a "we'll seee if it hold's togetehr at 200mph+" kinda thing.

most rails arent daily driver (all, duh!) and need a shakedown before the driver is prepared to go full tilt!!!

it is kinda only for trailered cars really...
