Wheel Studs: how important to upgrade?
i'm lookin to make about 500whp, obviously it's the torque that would snap them but i'm just lookin in general here. I'm gonna be running a 9-10inch wide slick 24.5 tall.
whats the likley hood that i'd snap stock wheel studs.. should i upgrade or am i just being paranoid?

most tracks make you use studs that stick out past an open-ended lug nut which is why people get extended studs. i don't think 500 hp would snap them unless the wheels were poorly manufactured with too much slop in the hole pattern.

run the extended wheel studs please. thats why there are rules for safety on these things.

And tech is done since an organization such as NHRA have gathered there are certain things that are needed so that each drag racer can safely go down the track.

can you explain why i would need to run extended ones? If i was upgrading i was just planning to run the ARP's that summit carries in the stock lenth because they reach fine.
If there is more info that i need to know about this then please explain.
the car is just a weekend warrior that will go to some shows & stuff & i'll happen to race it at our local drag strip on occasion. This car will not participate in any type of NHRA event or anything like that.

check with your local track. If youre short studs extend past the lug nuts you are using, I'm sure they will allow it. thats the main reason really is that the threads are past the lug nuts. Not just half of the lug nut.

It's a general fastener rule of thumb that got inserted into NHRA safety regulations.
The lug nut must engage the lug stud a distance equal to the diameter of the stud/nut.
It particularly applies to those that run wheel spacers.
