I ran my car last night...I have a 97 GSR with intake, exhaust, headers, DC shifter, Quiafe LSD, ACT 6-puck clutch, streetlite flywheel, traction bar, and hasport mounts...My 1/4 times SUCK and I know it!!! I'm new at drag, so just looking for a little help on launching and shifting...My fastest times of the night was 15.05 @ 90.44 with a 2.197 60' with BFG Drag Radials @ 15PSI...I heated up my tires a bit and launched around 5000-5500 and didn't get too much spin...As much money as I spent, I was looking for at least 14.5's, so I'M SWOLE !!! Any help as to get these times respectable and down to 14.5 (if not faster)??? Is my 60' decent or suck for what I have ???

By the way, last summer, I ran 15.1 @ 94 with CAI, exh, and headers on cheap street tires...Hummmm...............

Your trap speed is pretty damn low only 90mph. Your trap speed is going to be lower now since you have more traction but you dropped from 94 to 90mph something is going on their. Others will chime in..............

try lowering tire pressure to like 12 or 15psi and launch at 7000 rpm's and try to control wheel spin..

I have no idea how my trap speed dropped like that...I took off my LS wheels and had 16" Slips in rear and 15" Slips in the front, besides that, everything else on the car is the same...And my tire pressure was at 15PSI....

i think ur biggest problem is u dont understand the dynamics of rotating mass. that flywheel killed you. yes the car revs faster but out of the hole the motor cant carry the revs due to lost mass in rotating assembly. specially in a heavy car.
ive said it b4, just last week, medium to heavy flywheels belong in heavy cars, lightweight flywheels belong in light cars.
i cant say that 90MPH is attributed to the flywheel though. but i really believe that the loss in momentum at the start is they key factor. either that or the car is prolly running rich and lost power with the the mods.

with a lighter flywheel cannt you launch at a higher rpm to make up for the loss of rotating mass. I was planning on running a 8.8lb fly wheel in my GSR, but launching at a considerably higher rpm to prevent bogging.

just my opinion but anything lighter than 10lbs is to light for a teg if you just drag race but if you race like from a role than a really light one will kick ***

i thinik raise the tire pressure to 20 and rev that bad boy up to 7000 and see if you can get hte wheels spinning. Then lower the revs down a little till you get less spin. I have a gsr in my crx. I went 13.5 on street tires launching at 4000 and on slicks i was launching at 7-8 k. Good luck.

nice setup. with that setup u should easily be in the 14s. like 12nv says.. that flywheel is hurting u. my advice is to rev lower like 3500 to 4000 and control ur gas and possibly ur clutch.

this is my personal opinion, but i dont think your times are that far off for what you have done. i mean, you aren't making any more power than you were before, i wouldn't expect to go that much faster. need more power dude

so true,

for ex on a bike you have no power on the low revs. so basiclly you get your motor reved up (not red lining it) and ride the clutch off the line until you get to a more usable power band.

You should be able to run faster than that. I have a eg w/gsr itr pistons intake, headers, 14 inch cheap tires and the ck engine light and it ran 14.2 at pomona last december possibly could run faster but we spun the wheels all though 1st and 2nd our 60 ft time was 2.7 but trap speed was 103 mph

dont brag too much there kiddie, 2.7 60' is in the range of a 4 door DX model civic and 103 trap speeds are good for 12s but its apparent u cant drive cause u were no where near there.

Don't dump it with that 6-puck. You'll just spin. You should be alot faster. What I do with my car(6-puck in an EM1) is rev it to where I feel the clutch grab and just roll on it from there. You really can't hurt a 6-puck

Dont warm up the tires like a set of slicks, literally 1-2 seconds of wheels spin out of the box is good enough to warm them up.....

Outside of that, launch around 4k and wait till you feel traction and push it farther

How new are your bfg's?

I managed a 14.90 @ 91 (2.23 60') the first time out on them.

That was at 15psi doing a 3-4 sec burnout in 1st gear.


I launch around 4-4500, (slipping the clutch) but my motor probably has a little more torque.
