Default Stuggling for traction!

I am having severe issues with traction on my car which is custom Nissan Micra (March in Japan).

The car weighs in at around 1550 lbs with a full tank of fuel and is powered by a 350 HP SR20DE+T (low boost setting of 15 psi on GT28RS).

The suspension is sorted, but even with a set of 215/60/14 BFG drag radials I am suffering, spinning the tires through 1st & 2nd gear.

It is only when I get into 3rd that I can really use the power.

So here is he question...

Will I be able to stretch a set of 235/60/14 M&H Racemasters over my 6" wide wheels.

They recommend a minimum of 6.5" width, but can it be done safely?

Cheers

Dave

Damn...how you get your car to weigh in at 1500? O to your question I wouldn't suggest it if they recommended 6.5 and all you have is 6 find a rim that's wide enough. Also what type of LSD are you running if any?

The Micra only weighs 1700 lbs from the factory, so when it's stripped to death with basically a seat, steering wheel and pedals, then it gets real low!

The LSD is a NISMO 90% locker!

I don't know about safely but I run 225 BFG's on a 5.5" wide tire. it's not ideal because of the contact patch getting cut down but whatever.

Are you sure you car makes that type of power? SR20's are nice motors but yeah, I think you are making something more like 270-300 on that puny turbo. On 15 psi at least. If not , nice numbers.

What does suspension sorted mean? You should get some real stiff suspension in the rear.

oh and lower your tire pressure and do a burnout

I did notice a differnece in times and traction during the day as I lowered the tire pressures from 20 psi to eventually 12 psi.

Should I go even lower?

And, it's a 400lb rear spring, shouldn't that be enough or would you recommend even heavier springs?

normally here in america we refer to hp as the power measured to the wheels. and according to your chart your wheel output is 260 bhp.

i dont think the point of the OP's thread was to argue about how much power he's making.

if you aren't heating up the BFG's than they aren't going to do what they are supposed to. you need to heat up those drag radials and run lower psi when launching.

if you don't heat them up you will keep spinning through the gears. either way, with that light of a car, i dont find it hard to believe that you will still spin some or most of first gear.

i'd definately opt for a dual or multi stage boost controller. i used the turboXS dual stage boost controller in my car and helped remarkably with traction out of the hole.

goodluck

original poster never said his power was WHP either... 1500 pound car is gonna have some traction issues, whether it makes 150whp or 350whp...fact of the matter is, he has traction problems and wants to know how to fix them. as others have said, who arent concerned with the legistics of your pwr output, lower your pressure some more, and heat those bad boys up a lil bit.

what kinda 60fts are you pulling? post pics of the car too

I have learned to bog the engine down to off the line...averaging 2.15 60fts on most runs, but as soon as it comes on boost, it spins the tires up, all the way to 75ish mph. As soon, as I change into 3rd, I get a little traction loss, but it grips much better!

you need to get a wider rim and tire and run it with lower tire pressure
