Default Ignition is it worth it?

Ok, I have a 94 B18c1 motor w/ I/h/testpipe/E, IM, TB, FPR, Stage 1 cams. I am running NGK wires and Denso Iridium plugs. I am about to put my hondata in and have it tuned. Would it be in my best interest to Get the MSD blaster Coil, cap and rotor prior to having it tuned?

you don't need unless you want to run a 2step.

may as well do it before you tune as oposed to after. i'm not sure how much it will benifit your mild setup though. i'm not into the all motor thing, i don't know when you guys normally upgrade. you can modify the stock cap if you don't want to spend the cash on a msd cap.

i don't think you can run an MSD 2-step off the coil, you need the box. and the box is ****. if you want a 2-step, get neptune/hondata/uberdata/crome.

right you need to run a 6AL, soft touch etc. Upgrading the coil to an MSD coil on a mild motor is not beneficial. The box is **** huh? First time I have heard that about an msd box.

i've never used one on my car but, of all the cars i tuned, they did nothing but make things go wrong. so maybee they aren't ****, but not worth it on any mild setup.

I think the biggest problem is the people installing them poorly. All it takes is one bad connection and it's not gonna work at all.

MSD is one of the most unreliable ignition systems you can buy, but fortunately for MSD, there aren't many other options. Show me a racer who says MSD is good quality stuff, most run it cause they don't know of a better option. If you want a good quality ignition box, get an M&W box.

I have been looking for a way for years to get all MSD **** out of my car, I finally found a way thanks to Tony!! I used 2 MSD Digital-6 boxes each race season, and had to constantly get them fixed from MSD.

MSD are just junk. Walk around in the pits and you'll see at least one person looking for an ignition box or coil. M&W are the ****. If you have an EMS that has 4 ignition outputs and you want to run COP then Autronic CDI or Motec shine.

I thought i could run the external coil just for a better spark... Why would there even be a problem if the install was done correctly?
thanks for the input so far keep it coming.

is it worth upgrading your ignition if you are going to run a stock coil and cap? And are crane ignitions ****?

They all run carburators, should we run them too? Dont get me wrong MDS gets teh job done but how many times have you heard of people having problems with them. Alot! On my digital 6 we have to run a small ignition gap like .020, on a CDI from motech or autronic you run anywhere from .030-.035 ish. That should tell you something.

more opinions....you know what they say about opinions....and they run carbs your point?....since when did the ignition systems have anything to do with how the air/fuel gets in the cylinder

NSCA event winners of 04 all use msd...just one example...

Event winners include Marc Dantoni in Outlaw Street, Kenny Bennett in Super Street, Tim Davis in Hot Street, (all MSD users mind you) and many more.

Top fuel and funny car run mags, that's a different ballgame, and pro stock doesn't have the electronics to run individual coils. Let's take a look up into the higher forms of racing, since drag racing is usually pretty far behind them. Formula 1, IRL, Cart, etc, you think you'd find an MSD anywhere near any of those cars?

Forget about that altogether, i've run them all, from msd 6-10, motec, m&w, and autronic. The msd is the last one on my list of parts to buy. I don't expect anyone to go out and use what I say, but when you've seen results with your own eyes it's hard to believe otherwise.
