Re: Eliminating Vtec Solenoid?
He is using vtec. He is utilizing a "cam trigger" kit to actuate it is all. If you look on the front(timing belt) side of the motor, you will see there is a sensor, and wire connected to the bracket. That bolts to the head where the power steering used to. That senses a magnet in the cam gear, and tell the compute what the rpm is. Everything else can be take off of the other side of the motor now. And this kit is more accurate as well.
Nothing to do with vtec....

Did speedfactory not lose the vtec by locking theirs up? Whats to gain on having your cams running on the big lobe constantly? Any gains in spool?

Re: Eliminating Vtec Solenoid?
less valve train parts when locked in vtec always. the engine is never under 5k rpm so primary lobes are useless
i would guess you also keep oil pressure in the bottom end where its needed more too

Re: Eliminating Vtec Solenoid?
It's already been said earlier. Race cars "especially" drag setups that will never need to utilize the vtec function simply ditch it. The crossover was developed for normal driving efficiency and fuel economy with additional power in high rpm if needed.
Since low rpm efficiency is not needed. It's eliminated for a "vtec killer" dual lobe cam or a custom single (roller) lobe/locked rocker setup, like posted on page 1.
Drag cars launch above 5000rpm so what good is a vtec crossover point?
Less valve train components less stress/wear&tear aswell.

Re: Eliminating Vtec Solenoid?
So if he isn't running a cam trigger system, then what is the bracket for on the front of the motor? I did read the question correct right?
