I bet sooner or later the price of these gear sets will go down to a reasonable price. $6850 is alot of money but racing is not cheap, you want to go fast you got to pay to play.
If you lived in Australia the price would be comparable, thank Obama for rising costs of quality gearsets. The extra price of this gearset of the liberty will pay for itself in short time if you actually race the car, and you could buy two for the cost of a PPG after you have to buy new gears and a final drive every three hits.
I wouldnt go far as saying that, but a purpose built OUTLAW car is a bit of a difference... LOL.
If it was 2-3 years ago I would be in the market, and would DEFINATELY make Albins the choice.
....but as the Honda will be replaced with something with 8 cylinders a 9 inch and a snail the size of a basketball in the nearish future... The tranny choice will be a much cheaper RMVB TH 400 with a brake.

ummm i went 30 plus passes on my liberty back in 07-08 so imma call bullshit on this statement
i wont say names, but the FASTEST outlaw car had more consistency with a liberty than a ppg ( went more rounds) i wont even get into certain hotrod cars....
at the price of both, even if it lasted 3/4 the amount of hits as the ppg, it still costs half, by process of cost effectivness, its hands down liberty. either or, some schmucks will by the albins, break it like all the rest, take it up the *** to rebuild it, and love every second of it,
but all three are wack, go auto trans lol
my only deal with liberty is when you need something, you really have to hold your breath on whether they have it in stock or if its "being made"
I generally have good dealings with them on the phone but im holding my breath that my input shaft 3rd gear will be here next week

I agree that the ppg is junk. I've made 30 passes on a stock tranny, who gives a ****? I have been waiting for a tranny company to release something that will work and didn't have the fundamental design problems that the PPG has. Not only that but I am willing to pay the extra $2k for the ability to replace dogs I crash or broken parts for very cheap unlike PPG or liberty where you have to buy an entire gear and or slider, not to mention Albins' willingness to help the community and give us what we want unlike the PPG/Liberty's stance of "yeah we know there's a problem with this and that, but too bad, that's how it is"

ok, and ive made 100's of passes on stock tran's? but we not here to compare dicks are we?
if u like spending 6k plus on a gearset that breaks no matter who makes it, have fun and do it, but dont say its soooo much better than the rest when they are all overpriced junk in one way or another. to spend 6k it better be the last trans i buy in a lonnnnnng time
I would deff like to see more of this box out there, i dont wanna hear speedfactory has gone fast with it either.

I heard rumor that Albing is/was affiliated with PPG. Erik, can you confirm or deny that?
wow, this thread makes me laugh so hard! lol. You can kinda guess why I have no interest in the high-end drag racing market now.....so funny.
Anyways, from what I know:
Holinger is what started it all in Australia, and is the most well known company in Australia that makes "high-end" gearsets (kinda like Hewland & Xtrac). Albins then came onto the market and started making "low-end" gearsets, which Holinger was not interested in doing.
A group of ex-Holinger employees (Pfitzner and Modena) saw the demand in the market, and started up a new company called Modena to compete with Albins. In the "southern hemisphere", for "low-end" gearsets, this is the #1 rated company, not Albins (just a commonly shared opinion, don't shoot me for it), but were still a lot more expensive.
Pfitzner, due to disagreements with Modena, then split off and started his own company i.e Pfitzner Performance Gearbox aka PPG. Still more expensive than Albins, but a lot cheaper than Modena.
There are other companies in Australia that make gearsets which are classed alongside Albins and PPG e.g PAR (probably the cheapest of the lot)
Some of the details might be wrong, so feel free to correct me if I am.
I guess it's only a matter of time (i.e sales figures/interest) when Albins is given the back-burner like PPG, and Modena is the new "must-have"
lol. So Tony takes over the distributorship for PPG, who's going to take over Albins? Speedfactory?
As far as customer support, most new companies (new in terms of marketing their products to our market) will provide 101% customer service, which is also partly to do with the distributor concerned (who is usually the one who partially funds the "customer service"). However, this is to be expected when you have only sold a prototype, or sold a number of gearsets that you can count on one hand. Once you get to the point where you have knocked out mid-high double figures, there is only so much bullshit that a manufacturer can take from their customers and/or potential customers. Shoot me all you want for this, but this is fact. This thread is living proof.
Credit is due to Albins though for taking the initiative to make the B-Series 3rd/4th 2pc gears. However, don't get caught in the bandwagon. Honda have been doing this for years with their own gearsets (albeit not B-Series); long before Albins. It's nothing new or "state of the art". As I said though, credit is due.

ERIK is great...
PPG... ****, just like any of the others... About on par with Saenz too (as far as service), but Saenz has been very good to me as far as offering discounts on **** I break (which has all but been solved now)
I dont agree the PPG **** is Junk.... Thats a pretty bold statement. However OBVIOUSLY the Albins is working better, in one of the Quickest/fastest cars running right now. That in addition to the plus side of the serviceable engagement makes it a no brainer for serious racers from here on out... In the immediate future anyways...
Honda-tech was is and always will be the home of the bandwagon and its nutswingers... LOL.
There are only so many MFGs that actually PRODUCE gearsets marketed by various companies.... As outlined above partially.
Stephen, good info and you make alot of good points. It's a rough market and I don't blame you for not wanting anything to do with it.
These threads always seem to turn into an overly opinionated mud slinging session for some reason.
The best advice is to actually talk to as many of the guys that have experience running these different gearsets as possible to get a good overall picture of what's working and what isn't and what issues people are having, along with having a good idea of what features you do or don't need and/or have value for your particular application.
Most of what you see on here is repeated stuff that is often inaccurate anyway, and from what I see posted here most people don't have a very accurate picture of what's really going on out there with many of these boxes. Alot of people repeating info they read somewhere.
We sell what we use and trust, and has worked well for us. We like MFactory LSD's, we like the lower cuff on the PPG set for stock cases, and we like the Albins gearset.

Because I no longer have interest in this market, hence no new products from us in the short term :p
It's called prioritising. Why focus on the 5% of the sales which give nothing but constant BS, when the other 95% is what pays the bills, and without the BS?
Although I can't speak for them, I'm sure Liberty/GForce/PAR/PPG feel the same way as we do.
In saying that, we have made significant progress on our prototype dog gears (both B & K), and the several cars that are running them will be doing so for quite some time. R&D is being done behind the scenes to eliminate the BS (We learnt our lesson after the AZ fiasco). However, I don't see the need nor do I have the interest to put the production of these at the top of my list of priorities. We have far more important avenues for revenue to concentrate on.
So for now, the only choices you guys have is to pay the $4-5k for "made in USA", or pay the $6-7k for "made in Australia".

Really? Get real. I have a LOT of hits on my PPG, with a lot of power and a lot of really fast times. I have cracked 1 ring and pinion and damaged dogs on two gears that were 100% my fault, would have happened with any gear set.
We have determined 100% that there is a case flex issue that is affecting the ring and pinion strength, can't blame PPG if a gear breaks and it's not riding the way it's supposed to because of the case.
The Albins looks like a very nice set and i'm sure it will work great, but lets not start the Albins is the best and PPG sucks until it's run it's course and proven it. Not to sling mud, but the first outing on the Albins resulted in broken parts and there's really not that many passes on any Albins box yet.
I'm curious though, what are the 'fundamental design problems' with PPG?
