I have been extremely pleased with the Albins helical dogbox. I really like the thought process behind their design features, and also found the fitment to be much better than our previous box. It is also quite a bit cheaper than the PPG box.
The helical cut gears are nice and quiet so you can actually hear other things going on with the car when in motion, unlike the straight cuts where it always sounds like something is broken. The helical cut gears handle any case distortion/deflection much better than the straight cuts do, and the swappable 3/4 dog rings are just awesome. You can damage the faces of the dogs, and then flip the 3/4 sides over and you have new dog faces again. If you damage them again, then you can just replace the needed dog rings rather than having to buy a whole new gear.
I could go on and on about it, but let's just say we are more than pleased thus far and don't have any plans of running the other box again. The Albins set works great, is reliable, is less expensive upfront, and I feel is more cost effective over time than the PPG due to the design features.
During intial testing we did find some stress fractures in the 4th gear dog ring after we crashed the 4th gear dogs, and Albins took our results/feedback and immediately redesigned it and beefed up the dog ring design. It has gotten us through the last 4 events/track outings with zero issues and everything looks great, including a pass with the brakes stuck on the entire run which put an abnormally large load on the tranny.
The Albins synchro set in Zol's car has been run at 850-900whp and a heavy 2600-2700lbs for 35 plus passes now in a stock case with no handcuff. I'm not worried about the strength of the gears, and the dog set w/handcuff is even stronger.
Here are some more pics of the Albins dogbox w/Liberty case in our Outlaw car:

And some pics of the synchro set with a stock 5th gear so you can see the tooth profile difference:

How is $6850 cheaper?
I'm glad to hear that fitment is good.

Alot of us bought our PPG sets when the rate was better. That $6850 is also shipped, and shipping is ~$200.
Maybe we should say $6650 so it sounds better?
A recent quote I got for a PPG set was ~$1000 more than the Albins. That's alot cheaper in my book.

Ultimately I would think the semi-helical would be nicer to cases and whatnot in theory as well vs true straightcuts..... at least as far as shaft seperation stress... Thrust load is another deal. But im sure not an issue with that set. The easy change dogs/syncros they offer are a really really cool deal too. Wish my set was like that.
The angle on the Albins' cut looks to be about 20ish degrees... The appearance of them make me a little hard... They look like old Muncie M22 "rock crusher" gears .... LOL:

Ah the good old days
