1997 honda prelude idle problems with aem ems
i have been racking my brain with this aem ems trying to get the idle down past 1100 rpm without stalling i have checked my timing twice i have tryed talking with aem to come up with a solution for this problem i get timing errors which aem says its due to my distributor they told me to buy a new honda distributor but what if that dosent solve my problem i mean befour i put in the aem ems i had a vafc i was using to tune down the injectors just to get by and i never had a problem with the idel aem say that there ems is real sensitive to the singnal in the honda distrubtor but they never have been able to come up with a good solution ive just spen over 1500 dollars on this setup and i believe that there are good things to come with this managment but iam very dissatisfied with the tech support if any of guys have any ideas on what the problem is please reply back

if you are getting timing errors then the dizzy is a pile, as are most honda dizzys.
if you switch to hondata it will "fix" it, but you still have garbage signal going into your ecu.. it dosnt matter what ecu it is, GIGO
id call up tony1 and get a cam trigger instead of buying a new distributor.

aem isnt the only ecu that has this problem, any and all standalones (even motec), if they can even use the stock distributor, have issues with the stock distributor's signal here and there.
like Jdogg said, garbage in, garbage out.
i rev to 11k on an OEM ITR p73 distributor on an AEM EMS 30-1040U box w/o any issues and idle my car ~700.

i understand but 5 gen prelude crank trigger is on balance shaft thats alot of work for somthing you just plug in and also what distributor are you using what do i need for obd2 also i talked to aem tech and he said to send it back and they were going to check the resistors in the box
The cam position sensor is in the distributor, not one the crankshaft. Those two are the Number One Position and Crank fluctuation sensor.
+1 for the T1 cam trigger.
my car wouldnt rev past 10psi with out breaking up and missfiring with AEM on a stock distributor. put the T1 kit in, had no missfires, even past 40psi.
H22's are very touchy

with the t1 trigger you can still use the distributor for spark.... or you can use this

but you have to go coil on plug if you use that since it replaces the distributor.

basicly changing the resistors make it less sensitive so it can deal with a weak shitty signal.. if you are ok running your car with a weak shitty signal go for it, but dont blame us or aem when your **** blows up b/c your distributor is a pile of crap
right i understand your point but when i call the tech line they should atleast try to come up with a solution for this problem cause i no this isnt the first time this has happened so what are your recomendations for a distributor
The solution is getting rid of the stock distributor. The aem doesn't do good with the signals it produces and will run much better when it has a clean input signal.
This will solve your problems.

becuase it ISNT a solution, its a bandaid that has MAYBE a 30% chance of working? and even then, its questionable.
from what ive noticed, some distributors just work, and some dont.
if you talked to Garvin on the tech line, he himself has run into this problem on his personal car, hes tried 3 differnt distributors, ask him what his final solution was....he put on the new AEM EPM and COP. ask him about it.
