It hasn't been around that long, 98civdx and I had a lengthy discussion one night about detailing and figured it might come in handy to help some people out. You should post up some pics of the Db. I know how good that paint looks. Share some of your tips, secrets, what products you use, how you apply them etc.

Fantastic choice sir. Only thing in the future I could see is going to a 7" pad instead of the 5.5", but those 5.5" will hold you over for quite awhile. What color pads are you going to go with?

Don't use a DA, I only use a rotary. But I do use 7" pads on the rotary.

This is a great video to watch. Might answer a few questions for you.

Huh, I wonder why that is. Maybe 98civdx will chime in and give us some more insight

7'' is too big for a DA, IMO. I tried it once on one panel and it didn't work the way I'd would have hoped.

It was a Meg's red foam. Was a handful as others have said, and I also noticed how easy to was to stop the rotation without much pressure.

I also tried a wool pad on it, that didn't work either.

i think its too big for a DA as well. hard to control while rolling over the surface.

All my pads 6'' for the DA, but I wish I got the smaller meg's MF pad. It sticks off the edge just enough to tear the foam.

OPT Instant Detailer (at 4:1). it's so cheap and awesome...super slick. ~$12 a gallon when diluted; you can't beat it. or Opti-Clean which is ~$10 a gallon at 3:1 and is super versatile. there are a lot of good products out there but i love the value of OPT concentrates when diluted.

i have yet to get any of the new formula Opti-Clean but my suspicion is if you played with mixing a small part of ID with Opti-Clean you'd have the increased slickness the new stuff is purported to have and not compromise the performance of Opti-Clean.

That looks really good 256. Might be the fact I have a soft spot for Milano Red w/bronze wheels but that came out great.

last night i swapped out my previous six T12 fixtures for three T8 fixtures with four bulbs each. MASSIVE light.

cell phone shot after installation last night.

after washing today

corrected and coated with Opti-Coat Pro in March with ~1500 miles on the odo. the car literally has no marring or damage even in the slightest bit seven months later with baths every two weeks or so. Opti-Coat is amazing...but Mercedes ceramic clear coat is so damn tough.

Damn builthatch! I am definitely jealous!

I've always struggled with lighting. It's never just right, always too much, or not enough. dragging around a light gets annoying after a while.

Anyone have any experience with the c6 corvettes? I plan to start on my 09 zr1 but was wondering about the clear on the c6's. I've read it's a very hard clear?

the overheads are awesome for inspecting flats and pretty much all aspects of general cleaning but without fixtures on the walls, it's impossible to truly inspect vertical surface condition without having at least halogens. halogens on a stand are the go-to for most guys i know. i use cheapo halogen floods in strategic positions.

@Redboost, I have not. I did a newer Camaro awhile back and the clear coat was pretty good. I could get some pretty good heat build up in it.

@buildhatch. What did those lights cost you? (if you don't mind)
